Potential for something great!

This is a really nice place and the few staff/people being here are really doing a great job – they were very engaged, informative and seemed knowledgeable... there were a great ammo show including firing of a canon :o) But even though visiting this center in the pick season (1st week of August) we (2 adults and 2 boys aged 8 and 10) missed information, more live interactions and more activities… I think I had expected more... atmosphere ...maybe some music and “gøgl” (entertainment)… it seemed that more staff was needed as some activities (e.g. the archery course, kitchen and towns were closed/empty). We did participate in a guided tour at the Hammershus (arranged by “Bornholms Middelaldercenter”) which is very much recommended! Louise was a great narrator and with her stories she captured us all – even the small kids – the history was made very interesting and present! Thanks, Louise! Center: 3 stars = average + 1 extra star for the guided tour and potential!

    Consistent setting
We went to this place during off season on a cloudy day and we were the first car on the parking lot. We didn't turn but went in and liked it very much. Having a kid in the right age, we have been to multiple middle ages reenacting places. What we liked about this place, is that it is consistent in focusing on one period in time in one place. They have multiple houses and animals outside the wooden palisades and a number of houses and a tower on the inside. Everything is nicely maintained and made to look authentic. What surprised me, was that they had more staff than I expected in off season. So we could try bow and arrow shooting, some handwork and there was also the firing of the canon which was nicely presented (the guy really loved his job). All in all it was a great half day we spent there.

They put the kids in the stocks - perfect!
The tour guides through the center were lovely and engaged a whole group of students in their 1 hour tour of the center. I especially liked it when they had a kid climb through a tree to prove he wasn't a witch, and then later put him in the stockade, to show how effective they were. We were also allowed to try some archery - and the staff at that activity were knowledgeable, helpful and safety conscious. I would take a group of students here again!
