Lovely for a stroll!
You can get to the gardens by walking through the castle and there is no fee required. We went this April to Cesky Krumlov and walked through these beautiful gardens. It was a very calm and relaxing activity. There were no flowers planted yet and the fountains were turned off due to the weather I am guessing. Would have been nice to see it with those elements but I still enjoyed it without.

Worth the trouble
These beautiful gardens are up at the top with the castle and there for quite a walk. We had arrived by train which is a 2 1/2 km walk into the bottom of the steep hill and then you have to get up to the castle to visit them. It was worth it though. Are beautifully maintained and cover a wide expanse. There is a maze of hedges, acres of beautifully kept of Gardens and wonderful statues.

A Wonderful, peaceful way to enter Cesky Krumlov
We went to Cesky Krumlov for the day with a private guide who actually took us into the town via “the back door”….through the Castle Gardens. What a wonderful way to start our visit. Despite the terrible drought, the gardens were lush, flowering and full of color. The fountains were all blasting away and the breeze through the trees was delightful. When we exited, we obviously walked back through the garden, which offered up a second opportunity to take in their beauty before getting on the road for a drive back to Prague. (Also, there was no parking problems and little to no traffic…brilliant!!). Definitely enjoyed the gardens and would visit them again if the opportunity presented itself.
