The beating heart of the city

The most significant square of historical Prague, it was founded in the 12th century and has been witness to many historical events. In addition to the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the square is dominated by the Baroque Church of St Nicholas, the Rococo Kinský Palace, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell and the monument to Jan Hus. In the pavement of the square are memorial stones marking the execution of 27 Czech lords in 1621, and the Prague meridian.

    The heart of Prague
We came after the COVID restrictions were lifted and we were extremely lucky since I understand this city is super crowded and much more expensive (still not a cheap city though). Every time we were walking around and ended up walking into the square it was very nice to access it from the different angles. The atmosphere here was quite nice and chill. Sit down and watch people go by and enjoy the place and of course the famous astronomical watch (which is not that big of a deal actually but you are here anyways right?)

    Breathtaking (not just) during Christmastime
A beautiful, big square with the view of some of the most important historical sights Prague has to offer, such as the Old Town Hall. One of the biggest attractions in Prague so expect a lot of tourists, crowds, and high prices of everything. On the other hand, it is a must see because this place is simply stunning, especially if you are a foreigner. My last visit was in December when the famous Christmas markets were taking place and I was surprised at the low number of visitors (it was early afternoon not on a weekend). The Christmas markets are a must see as well, with beautiful wooden stands offering many traditional as well as the newest treats, rich cultural program and the biggest Christmas tree and light decorations.
