    Nice, but...
An very old castle, with interesting architecture. It can be reached coming from Prague by S7 train. It’s a 45 minutes trip. From the train station you have to walk about 2km on a road that climbs a slight slope (on the last portion it becomes a bit steeper). The castle can be visited only on a guided tour. There are three variants of guided tour, which practically have no common parts. I don't think it's a good idea, I think it's just a way to get more money from tourists. So, if you want to see everything there is to see, you have to do all the tours. Coupling of the 3 tours would result into a really interesting tour. On two of the tours, is forbidden to take photos. The “Karlštejn Castle Chapels” tour, the longest and the most expensive I think doesn’t worth the money. It’s too long, there is too much time wasted with the detailed description of the biblical scenes painted on the walls. The only really impressive part is the Chapel of the Holy Cross. Besides, as I said, you can’t take any photo in this tour.

Check Opening Days if out of season
Just to make everyone aware that they should check opening days/hours for the castle before visiting, especially if out of season. We visited on a Wednesday in February to find the town like a ghost town due to the castle being closed. Plenty of restaurants, bars, cafes and shops with menus and boards outside but not a single one open. We didn't mind so much as it was a nice day and we had a brisk walk up to the castle gates and back. And it was a nice train ride out of Prague. But our only source of sustenance was the vending machine in the train station
