Welcoming, good value, nice surprise
First time in Bulgaria so did not really know what to expect. Bansko is an easy 2 ½ hour drive from Sofia Airport and a really pleasant surprise. Best mix of old and new – ski gondola in the middle of town with bars, restaurants, gift shops and fast food huts all around. You can eat at every level and all give you good value and good quality. The street kebabs, crepes and pizza are delicious and so cheap. The bars, restaurants and traditional Mehana are all welcoming and great value. More than enough variety to entertain a family for a week and you will spend significantly less than any other European resort. The exchange rate and the healthy local competition make this a highly recommended option for a family ski trip.

Great little street with a surprise
I went for a wonder down Pirin street. Lovely street with plenty of shops and character. At the end off to the right of the church is some alley ways, these lead you through Old Town, what a treat that was. Imagine a town/village untouched by modern society, it was like stepping back in time

Depressive due to Covid
My 3 star rating means neutral, as we've visited this street during the Covid era when it certainly didn't have it's normal appearance. From many friends of mine who visited it in the previous years I was told this is a lively and interesting street with great fun and dining options. The same I've read in travel forums. However, during our visit in Feb 2021 it looked depressive with all the restaurants closed (only takeaway was allowed) and with empty souvenir shops with no customers, only sad looking owners. The highlight was a terrific Holy Trinity Church which is somewhere in the middle of it.
