Brilliant even in a cold winter night

Tiananmen on a cold winter’s night is so much better with far less crowds. The Gate of Heavenly Peace and the surrounding architectures are brilliantly illuminated at night. Officials checks ID of all who enters the area so foreigners will need to show their passports and the Chinese VISAs( sometimes).

stay up late for the fantastic flag-raising ceremony
It's probably the most unforgettable experience that I have ever had. Started at 9 p.m. late in the night, standing for almost 9 or 10 hours just to see what it feels like when see the guard of honor with the national flag and sing the national anthem together with millions of people. Probably just for Chinese people, who really enjoy doing all kinds of patriotic activities, but who knows, it is gonna be very cool even for people from other countries. Especially for Chinese visitors, if you are planning to have a better view, like in the first two or three rows of the crowds, then it's bette for you to start your preparation earlier. Like, you gotta arrive at the security-check station at 9 or 10 in the night. A cushion is needed, as you will be asked to be staying there before 3 in the morning, which means it is gonna be really tired if you stand for all hours just like me :( See the weather forecast, especially when it is in autumn or winter. And then, enjoy the ceremony.

    A must-see in Beijing.
The sheer size and impact of the square and the buildings is quite breathtaking. The architecture and historical facts surrounding the square made it a very special tourist destination. Viewing this building through a Westerner's eyes was quite fascinating, especially all the security which is subtle but very evident. Unfortunately the day we went, it was 47 deg C so remember to take hats and water in summer.
