Transmart Carrefour, Bali, Indonesia

4.0 (534 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #8 in Denpasar Shopping Malls

Great convenient store

This is a supermarket that stocks everything. Great for food shopping, nice fresh fruit and a huge range too. Loads of white goods in stock but not necessarily the best prices , most of the sole traders in the street will beat their prices so do your homework.

    Is Big Always Better
There is no doubt that there is a lot of whatever you are looking for, as long as you don't let yourself get distracted by clothing if you came here for soap powder, for example. Carrefour is a French owned chain of Supermarkets. Somehow this one got itself relegated to the third floor of the shopping complex. It would have made more sense to have it on he ground floor for ease of in and out. But then you have to walk past all of the other businesses before you get to the Supermarket and with a bit of luck they can waylay you into buying something from them. Maybe that is the point. The goods are well laid out, there is an internal consistency in place. Every now and again, just when you think you have seen the definitive array of coffees, you find yourself face to face with batik coats and shirts. Or when you turn left at the dairy cabinet, you are confronted with a tower of pineapples. I think they must do this on purpose to refresh your concentration. Yes, you are going to find everything you need here and more. There are just a few little local quirks that you will need to take on board, however. If you want to purchase headache pills you will need to enter a special little fenced off area and be counselled personally by one of the sales people. Embarrassingly, this is right next to the check out, and everyone is going to know you preferred analgesic. When you buy fruit or vegetables you have to take them to a special area to have them weighed, priced and sealed. If you don't do that before you hit the check out there will be a problem. There were some hair products that I was looking for. They didn't have them. They every other one on the planet, but not the one I wanted, even though it was a common French brand. I ended up purchasing 9 unknowns in the hope that one of them might resemble what I needed. They didn't. But we did buy some fantastic swimming pool toys and pump! There is not a problem with parking. Being located on Sunset Road, which is a main artery, getting there is easy. The traffic flows well and with some logic to it. The first time we shopped there we inadvertently parked in the Bus area, but, in true Balinese fashion, no-one mentioned it and the Parkir (Parking assistant) treated us with no less dignity and courtesy than if we had, in fact, been a bus.

    Covid Damaged
My partner and I went here a week ago. You could tell this was once a big deal. Appears that the lack of money coming in through Covid has severely affected the place as a whole. It was actually a quite sad and humbling experience. Even so, I'd recommend any travellers to stop by even for small purchases to help restore this market to its former glory.
