Crystal Bay, Bali, Indonesia

Know what to expect!

Beautiful but basic beach with shacks selling good food and cold beers/soda. Painful to get in the sea without water shoes due to the coral. Beware, there are no ATMs or mini markets (except a small shop with about 20 items in) only at the harbour. I loved staying at Crystal Bay bungalows. Top tip- If you’re looking at the sea on the far left on the right of the cave cafe you’ll see some steep steps. Don’t be put off by this. Climb and walk for about 15-20 mins (You’ll see beautiful butterflies ) and you’ll come to a small secret beach called Pandan beach. Absolutely stunning. There’s a shack there selling snacks and cold drinks. Good for snorkelling. Bit rough for swimming but you can dip. Definitely do a Manta Ray trip. I swam with one, absolute highlight!!

    Beautiful bay
We visited as part of a private tour whilst staying on the island. We used a private car from Warung Coconut which was great value and an extremely helpful guide. Nice beach with a couple of cafe bars. We have also dived the bay via boat accessed from a different part of the island, using dive company Scuba Junkie Nusa Penida It is very well known for mola mola visiting on the outer of the bay so is a very popular dive site. The beach and bay can get very busy.

    Be Careful!
Personal experience of this place has taught me to be careful before you go into the sea as my friends and I almost didn’t make it out alive. The waves can get extremely choppy and start dragging you out so make sure you’re in a safe and comfortable enough area where you know you can swim back to shore. Given my personal experience here, I’d still recommend people visit as it’s a beautiful beach to go swimming in but just to be mindful if you’re not a strong swimmer or travelling alone.
