Tropical fish in clear water

Went to this area by a traditional boat from Candidasa to snorkel and spotted a turtle on the way. As we did not go onto the beach can only review the lagoon. The water was clear and clean. Saw only a couple of pieces of rubbish. The amount of fish and the variety of fish were amazing. The fish come up very close to you as you enter the water. I believe some people may feed them. There is a lot of coral but only some small patches of coloured coral as so much of it has been affected. It was good to see that there is some regrowth of coral on the artificial reefs that have been placed in the water. It is a very popular area so best to go early as the water is usually calmer and less boats coming in.

    Some good and some bad
I went snorkeling from the beach several times over four days and I learned the hard way on my last day, how deceptive the waves are. There is always a challenging shore break over rocks but once you are past this, the lagoon is a good snorkeling area. Today, I got thrown around a lot and have scrapes and bruises coming up all over me. I eventually gave up and got out of the water with some help. Sadly, this day the water was full of rubbish as it had rained the night before. Previously, I had seen some rubbish but this particular day, it was really bad and constantly wrapping around my legs. Numerous boats come to the lagoon every day with snorkelers and divers and this is not a problem. However, on one day, I was hit on the head by a boat and when I spoke to the guides on board they told me that I should be looking for boats and it was my fault. There are certainly a good range of fish to see amongst the rubbish and the water isn’t deep.

    Blue Lagoon
We were staying in Candidasa and wanted to head out for a snorkel. We read Blue Lagoon was a great place to visit so we went there. We hired a driver to take us through in the morning however when we got there he sea was rough, very rough. Even as good swimmers getting to the coral off the beach can be tricky. The beach entry is surrounded by rocks and the waves come through from multiple directions. Suggest hiring a boat to go snorkeling in this area and yes it is dirty unfortunately.
