Biorock Pemuteran bali, Bali, Indonesia

4.5 (481 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Buleleng Regency Nature & Wildlife Areas

Still a way to go but a great idea and worth supporting and its free.

I'm giving this 5 stars cause its free and a real achievement for Bali. I didn't see the entire thing but what I saw was some small outcrops of coral on man made frames and a few tropical fish. We saw this the day after the natural reef and whilst it didn't compare to that it was still time well spent. I imagine it will get better every year. It wasn't polluted the day I went though I believe at some times it is. The locals and tourists alike physically remove plastic from the ocean there and it may be helping. Probably better at low tide but we were mid tide and it was still good.

    Amazing corals
My friends and I went scuba diving there. We followed our dive guide passing through plain sand for 10 minutes. You don't see anything except sands. Then we saw some statues, that was deliberately put there to grow some corals, and I was not amused with the statue site. Then the guide brought us to Biorock area, which is near the Statue, and it was just amazing, to see very dense corals with structures as their based and there's so many of them. It's amazing that they've been successfully growing corals for the last 15 years. The day before we went to talk with a staff in Taman Sari Hotel and he said a lot of ignorance snorkelers did not enter Biorock area from the proper way, causing broken baby corals. So visitors to Biorock, please enter the proper way (there's a sign: Safe Way to Enter Biorock)

    World class! Free! Wheelchair access.
Where else can you just walk off a lovely beach into a fabulous coral reef. It is right there, just a few meters into the water. The water itself is so salty that even non swimmers bob around like corks. No effort necessary. What is necessary is sunscreen and or a t-shirt since time passes quickly as you float around above the massive heads of coral and all the fish and you will be burned to a crisp an time of the year. There are no stalls or touts on this beach so do bring your own food and water. There are high priced restaurants at the resorts directly behind the beach though. You can hire goggles and snorkel on the beach.
