Hmawza (Srikshetra) Museum, Bago Region, Myanmar

4.0 (32 reviews) Spent Ranking #4 in Pyay Speciality Museums

Worth to visit.

I have been living in Myanmar in nearly 2 years. People always talk about Bagan, Inle Lake, Golden Rock. But after visitjng SriKshetra, as my point of view, this ancient city should be ranked at number 3. For your info, In 2014 the Pyu cities Halin, Beikthano and Sri Kshetra have declared as Myanmar's first Unesco World Heritage place. In order to understand more detail about history, archeology. before you go. Since the monuments is spread and destroyed too much. The museum with entrance fee of 5000mmk is quite small but provide you basic knowledge about Pyu period.

    Dedicated to Pyu Culture
If you are planning to visit the ruins of the old city of Sri Kshetra near Pyay (formerly known as Prome), it is a good start to begin with a visit of this three room museum. In preparation for the nomination of the World Heritage status, new educational panels have been put up with text and pictures. On display are bronze, stone and ceramic funerary urns, jewellry, silver coins and bowls, carved stone statues of Buddhist and Hindu figures and ceramic votive plaques. A brochure is available. Since June 2014 the three Pyu cities Halin, Beikthano and Sri Kshetra have been declared Myanmar's first UNESCO World Heritage site.

    Interesting
Went to this small museum on the world heritage site it only consists of 3 rooms but the artifacts that are dug out of ground around it are mainly aged from 2 BC to 9 AD are very interesting and you have to consider that Myanmar has only been open to tourists for a few years so don't expect all the bells and whistles. Worth a look if you are in the area .
