Somiedo bear walk

We met our guide (Antonio) in Pola at 6.30am, drove to a promising viewing spot and scoured the horizon with binoculars. We saw two bears and a dozen or so chamois on the other side of the valley. Then we walked along a forest path scrutinising traces - bear poo, disturbed anthills, bite and scratch makings on trees. All the while learning about the people and ecology of the area and the story of the Asturian bears' recovery from 40 to 400 individuals.

    Somiedo Experience!!
my 13yr old son and I booked an afternoon trip to go bear watching. We hoped to see one but were happy to just hear about the bears habits and habitats. we were the only 2 English in the group, but an English-speaking guide was supplied (Juan Luis) at no extra cost which was fantastic. Sofia and Juan took ys to a stakeout where we watched a bear for about 45-60 mins. Without their expertise and knowledge, we would have never seen it. We also saw short-toed eagle, chamois, and a series of other species. Great trip! Would definitely recommend!!

    Thoroughly recommended
We were very satisfied with our morning of bear watching. Antonio was such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide . The weather conditions weren't great for our morning but we saw a bear nevertheless. Our sons had done the same trip with Antonio a couple of days before with better weather conditions and were fortunate to see 6 bears in total including a mum and her 2 cubs. We hope to return to Somiedo. Thank you Antonio.
