Memorial Day Parade brings Ashfielders here to celebrate its citizens

The Plain Cemetery in Ashfield, MA is just four or five houses from Main Street. Not to be confused with Baptist Corner Cemetery (March Road) near the Baptist Church. The Plain Cemetery is practically in downtown Ashfield on Baptist Corner Road. It is surrounded by homes with lovely gardens on three sides. An open sidewalk with old and beautiful Maple trees lets anyone interested wander in, among the headstones, checking out names such as Sears, Williams, Tyler, Hamlin, Hall, Willkins-Ellis, Howes, and many more, with dates going back to 1781 (and probably older that I did not see). In the center of the terrain, where the annual Memorial Parade arrives and the community surrounds a speaker who traditionally remembers local stories and heroes. Leaving the Cemetery, which is rather small, you are on the corner where Main Street and Baptist Corner Street meet. St. John's Church and the Congregational Church are on opposite sides of Main Street, Further on, is the Town Hall with it's majestic steeple, next to the Fire Department, from where the Memorial Day Parade starts. Closing the parade is a no less impressive line of vintage cars, During October Fall Festival (Columbus Day) Ashfield doubles its population attracting leaves-peepers and those who love a country fair.
