Eureka Springs Historical Downtown, Arkansas, United States

4.5 (809 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #9 in Eureka Springs Neighborhoods

This is worth every penny! It is a physical walking tour that does take hills and stairs. Take some water!

The Downtown and Underground Tour of Eureka Springs was outstanding! Tour "David" was phenomenal. His entertaining story telling and engaging dialect is very captivating. This is 90 minutes of pure history and a walking tour into some of the most interesting bones of the city.

    historic town....yes!
What a unique place. Loads of shops and restaurants, hotels and attractions like museums etc. Eureka Springs at one time was one of the largest cities in Arkansas. Started because of it's " medicinal springs" it became a haven for the sick and infirm in the early part of the twentieth century. It is the largest collection of Victorian architecture in America and the whole city is on the National Registry of Historical Places. Many of the buildings have plaques that tell you of when they were built and their many uses over the years. Today all are some type of shop or restaurant. There are four old hotels in the city if you want that type of stay, the haunted Crescent Hotel, the New Orleans Hotel, The Grand Central and the Basin Park. All five give a wonderful pampered experience. Parking is 5 bucks for three hours or you can catch the trolley all over town for 6 dollars a day. The town also boasts many bed and breakfast and other vacation rentals. There are no flat streets and no 90 degree corners. Many buildings have multiple floors that serve as ground floors due to the town being built on a mountain.

The good and the helpful to know...
The good: very nice downtown area, lots of different shops and things to see. Prices were what I would expect in a town that caters to tourists. People were friendly. The info you need to know: parking was limited and driving was scary as the streets are very narrow. I recommend taking the trolley for an all day $6 pass to hop on and hop off. The dining in downtown was very limited especially for breakfast as spaces were small. Many restaurants closed on Wednesday. The sidewalks are not smooth which adds to the historic feel but could be dangerous for someone with mobility issues. Also, built on a mountain so no flat streets!
