Lovely crossing

Even though construction began in the early 1400s, it has been refurbished in the meantime. For example the four stately lions were only added in 1991. Said lions are a fabulous addition, one standing sleek sentinel in each corner. Marvellous robust stone work is the distinguishing feature. From along it grand vistas of the river and city including Cathedral and spires are there to be seen.

    Best City Views
Lovely stone bridge spanning the Ebro River. A set of bronze lions at the bridge entrance are quite impressive. Vehicular traffic is minimal, but be sure to exercise caution. A wide pedestrian sidewalk lines both sides of the bridge. The views overlooking the river and cityscape (especially the towers of Basilica de Pilar) are fantastic especially with the changing light throughout the day/evening.

The best point for a photo near the water.
The 225-meter Stone bridge was built in the XV century on the site of the former bridge. The arch bridge is built according to all the rules. Its massive pillars, reminiscent of the tower have even breakwaters. It is hard to believe, looking at the shallow Ebro, that two spans were swept away by a flood in 1643. The spring flood quickly comes and goes carrying away a couple of arcades... Flood control also explains the strengthening of the embankment in 1789, which is a single architectural complex with the bridge now. Previously, the towers stood in front of the bridge, they were demolished only in 1906. Lions by the sculptor Francisco Rallo Lahoz were installed on the original plinths in 1991. It seems to me that to choose the best point for photographing the bridge you need to go down from the embankment to the water. Then it looks more medieval...
