Tsingy Rouge Park, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar

4.5 (468 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Antsiranana (Diego Suarez) Parks

Quite spectacular

Something very different and worth the journey. Much better than the grey Tsingy at Ankarana. In fact just give Ankarana a miss.

    Ephemeral Red Cones
The road is slow and bumpy, only 30-40km outside of Suarez but took an age to get to. That said worth the trek. The red Tsingy are ephemeral, they are constantly moving with erosion - very different to the grey Tsingy. The light plays an important role in how amazing they look so make sure you go when the sun is on them … check with your guide!

    Worth the bumpy ride.
This is a must-see if you are traveling this part of Madagascar as it is the only red tsingy in the world and is only accessible in the dry season. The tsingy is at the end of a long, narrow, rutted and winding dirt road (which is why it isn't passable in rainy season) that takes approximately 30 minutes to drive (and you probably need 4-wheel drive). It was a little more crowded than I care for but it is stunning to see, though nothing to the scale of the limestone tsingy in Ankarana. This was an unexpected side trip on our way from Ankarana to Diego Suarez and I am glad we took it.
