Whimsical Sculptures

A wonderful plaza highlighted by the whimsical Botero sculptures. They are much larger than I imagined. There were some noisy vendors but the plaza was not crowded the day we were there. We purchased a keepsake photo from one of the vendors for US$3.00. He took 5-6 pictures at different sculptures and allowed us to pick one. It was a nice souvenir of the day. One word of caution - do not walk more than a couple of blocks from the plaza as some of the surrounding neighborhoods are not completely safe and as in any busy downtown area, keep close track of your belongings.

    Very nice sculptures
This is a difficult attraction to review, because the sculptures themselves are fantastic, and there are so many to see! However, the plaza and the neighborhood are not safe places for tourists, so you will see unsavory characters lingering about, and you really need to watch your belongings and stay in the plaza rather than walking around the surrounding streets. We went while it was raining, and it was perfect, because most of the people left, and we had the plaza almost to ourselves. We did go with a guide, and he mentioned that the only reason the plaza was empty was because of the rain. I would suggest going with a larger group so that you can actually pull your camera out and take photos of the sculptures.

    Botero park
Walked around Botero park after our walking tour. The statues were amazing and felt very safe. Went on the first Saturday of the month and is a small park nearby where they sell crafts. Also lot of little stores nearby where you can buy stuff at a discount compared to malls. Wear comfortable shoes a lot of concrete to walk on. In the afternoon it got very busy and was hard to get a rubber due to traffic. Would advise using the Metro
