Fantastic Train Ride Around Rio Tinto Mine
We visited the Rio Tinto mine and went on the 90 minute train journey around the mine. Ages ranged between 6 and 65. Everyone had a lovely time! Points to note the train only goes a few times a day. Usually 1.30pm and 5pm seems the average times. The train does not go from the museum!!!!!! Head past the junction for the museum, keep going with the lake on your left and after you have past it, drive for a minute and you will see a junction on your right. This is the junction for the train. Here there's a car park and a small cafe with toilets. This is where you buy your train tickets and depart from just alongside the building. The journey was lovely. Sit on the left hand side of the train for the best river views. After around 30 minutes the train stops and you can get off to take a closer look of the river. The train toots after 15 minutes to tell everyone to get onboard. We went back to the main museum with the intention of taking a look around but instead we went to a lovely local restaurant. We walked up the hill from the museum and it was just past the small church opposite a little children's play area. Service here was fantastic and the food really good. The train is highly recommended if you want to engage all the family. Ask for the English notes when you buy your ticket as all the audio on the train is in Spanish. This didn't effect our enjoyment of the train journey at all. The views were amazing.

    A Unique interesting area
What a great place for the family to visit. Offering diverse things to do throughout your full days visit. The helpful ticket guy gave us the order and timing of each rather spread out attraction. There are 4 to which you are ticketed to visit. 1) Railway through the open cast mine dating back to the Romans insatiable demand for silver. The trips lasts approx. 1½hrs which includes a twenty minute stop at the end of line for walkabout before returning to its starting point. Reversible seats allow for a different perspective on the return journey. 2) The English Village. This is a most interesting little bit of Victorian England transposed into the rugged Andalucian landscape. One of the Casa (No.21) has been preserved as a museum, showing many photographs of the English occupants the mine managers together with their wives and children organising things like celebration games for Queen Victoria's diamond Jubilee etc. There is the original club with the original Victorian fittings and memorabilia still in evidence. 3) Walk through the Peña del Hierro mine transportation tunnel and see the now obsolete workings ( car required to get there) together with its now flooded mine which is one of the main water sources of the Rio Tinto itself. 4) The mine foundation main museum where you initially purchase your mine tour tickets for all the activities. Allow sufficient time in your to day enjoy this place. It is very well planned and offers many diverse interesting exhibits concerned with geology, mining methods, equipment , history plus much more. Excellent value for money and something for all ages to enjoy. It is only 1¼ hrs drive from Seville.
