Los Cahorros, Andalucia, Spain

4.5 (731 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Province of Granada Valleys

A great place to chill out and explore.

A great place to go to keep out of the heat. The walk includes long rope bridges, narrow paths that requires use of handles in the rock and a bit of crawling. The waterfalls are lovely and there are many areas en-route to paddle or even swim. There are a few routes all very well signed from Monchil centre.

    Summer walking in the river.
Great scenic walk up from the village, be careful where you park as tickets were given to some cars near the start point (bridge area) and €200 fines. We parked up the hill along a bend in the road without issues. Walk starts on far side of river (turn left after crossing and keep close to river, following upstream). It's about 1hr plus at a good pace to get to the first of the smaller bridges. Then another 45mins to get to the longer one and the section of overhanging walkways etc. You can stay out of water if want to, or walk either direction in the riverbed - take old comfy shoes! Great place to avoid the mid summer heat..take a few dips in the odd pool to cool off too.

    Beautiful hike
It you like do do something special and are here anyway I suggest you try walking the Los Cahorros trails. It's a fairly easy trail and the only real obstacle is the heat, so be sure to bring enough water. You'll find many different maps with suggestions to routes. The gorge and hanging bridges are well worth the approx. 8 km (5 miles) walk you will cover in most route options. For a shorter but still very nice walk try driving to the Central Electrica and follow the creek to the first hanging bridge. From here follow the trails to the east thru the gorge to Fuente de las Azuet and then up the hill thru Los Hundideros were you'll turn back west on a very small trail (where it says 7. Signposts on my map) which leads you to the above mentioned first hanging bridge. You'll find photos of maps and more if you search for Los Cahorros trail.
