Serious horseplay

The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art Foundation, in Jerez de la Frontera, is famous all over the world for its show called "How the Andalusian Horses Dance", a unique exhibition of horsemanship which both exhibits and summarises the work which the institution has carried out since its establishment. Although the show "How the Andalusian Horses Dance" may be considered the highest attainment of the School's work, there are other aspects which are regarded as equally, or even more important, for the Institution. Among these, we would like to highlight its role as a social and cultural vehicle for our equestrian heritage, the selection and promotion of horses, the training of Haute Ecole riders, the preservation and promotion of Classical and Country Dressage (Doma Vaquera), maintaining the prestige of our horsemanship, the breed of our Spanish horses, our traditions and culture. Furthermore, the show enables the Royal School to play host for the Province of Cadiz and to act as ambassadors abroad on annual tours to various foreign countries. In addition to the show, you might enjoy a visit to our training facilities as well as the Museum of Equestrian Art and the Carriage Museum.

    Not to be missed
This is an amazing place to visit to see the horses training. Do arrive at a time for an English tour as it is so interesting to hear about the selection of candidates for the school and both their and the horses training. You also get to visit the horses in their stable plus see them training in both the indoor arena and outside paddocks. It is worth paying extra to go into the museum too. Wandering around the lovely gardens and seeing the house was really lovely. It is on the outskirts of Jerez and we caught a taxi from the center as too far too walk. There is a small cafe within the venue but several restaurants and cafe on the main road nearby.

    Stunning setting
As a horse mad person from a very young age, I really wanted to visit here. Unfortunately, due to Covid19 we couldn't get to see the show on the day we visited. But we did have a wonderful tour of all the facilities. Getting to see behind the scenes was amazing. The sights, smells and noises all took me back to my days of owning a horse. We were lucky to be able to watch the horses and riders rehearsing for an upcoming Flameco festival, which was a real treat. The setting is stunning, the buildings are beautiful, the museum is great too. The cafe was great and we sat outside watching the horses and riders in the practice arena. Well worth a visit and we will definitely be returning.
