Renaissance fountain in the form of a Roman triumphal arch
The Santa Maria fountain located in the center of the square near the Cathedral was built in 1564 to mark the completion of works to bring water to the city. Water was supplied from a mine 2 kilometers from the city to the terminal, and then, accumulating, was fed to the city. The Baeza architect Ginés Martínez (mentioned on the fountain itself) executed the fountain in the form of a Roman triumphal arch with eight allegorical caryatids, alluding to Baeza's Iberian-Roman past.

Visit of the historical part of Baeza.
This fountain is located at the Cathedral and is together with the fountain of the Lions, one of the the most emblematic fountains of Baeza. Has been built in the middle of the 16th century. The fountain of Santa Maria, of Renaissance type, has a lower body formed by three bays, next to a columnar structure with two fronts, in which the shield of Felipe II can be observed. Located in the center of the Plaza de Santa de María, the water when arriving to the city was accumulated in a large terminal deposit or "Ark of water" from where it was guided to the different public sources, nice fountain, from here you are at a few steps of the cathedral, go ahead and than left is the main entrance.
