Paradise
Carmen de los Martires is a paradise on earth, specifically in Granada! We visited after having enjoyed the superb Alhambra. This is really an oasis of peace and tranquility. Beautifully landscaped gardens with sculptures and water features. Here a church was built, at the top of the hill, to honour and remember all those Christian martyrs who suffered under the Moor domination, whilst Spain was under Arab rule.

Escape the Crowds
A magical and peaceful spot near the Alhambra. When you're done with the crowds, head uphill just a bit and you'll find a slice of peace and quiet. The gardens here are endless and if you're lucky, you'll spot a peacock or two wandering around, especially close to the villa. Make sure you look for little frogs sitting on the lily pads. It's like a small botanical garden. Even better - there's no price for admission.

BEAUTIFUL GROUNDS
While the house is closed on Sundays, the grounds were well worth a visit [no charge]. There are several well situated fountains. The best of the gardens in my view is the little island on the level above the house. Not to be missed are the views, in particular of the old town. Go through the Puerte de las Granadas but head right, left taking you to the Alhambra. Should be pretty quiet. Grab yourself a peacock shot as well.
