Museo El Mensú, Alto Parana Department, Paraguay

4.5 (27 reviews) Spent Ranking #11 in Ciudad Del Este Speciality Museums

Small and cute

If one is new to the city one has to hunt for the entrance to this museum. The collection is house in what appears to have been a private home. Most of the objects were from the historic period. But I found what I was looking for - one small room that was dedicated to the Paraguayan indigenous people. The staff let me take pictures and would move some of the objects so I could see better. The collection was a bit dusty and worn. The objects would have preserved better in glass cases. Interpretation was lacking. I was disappointed that a city the size of Ciudad Del Este did not have a larger and better city museum. But there is also the much more modern and extensive museum at Itaipu Dam. However, I liked the place and recommend the museum to anybody interested in the Paraguayan diverse culture.

    A small, yet interesting museum.
I'll start this review by saying that my handle on the Spanish language is next to non-existent. Having said the above, I ventured into Museo El Mensu just the same knowing that my oh so limited Spanish language skills would carry me so far (or not at all) when it came to reading and understanding the written material. Yes I did find the material in the museum of interest, but what made the experience more enjoyable was the help I received by a gentleman by the name of Martin who works at the museum. He was good company as I wandered thru the museum, explaining to me some of the things on display. That aside he was a joy to talk to in general. It is a quick visit to the museum but worth a stop.

    Cute little museum
Worth popping in to spend some time here. Very interesting, well presented and quaint. Spend a bit of time here and you will learn a thing or two. Interesting.
