Aleutian World War II National Historic Area Visitor Center, Alaska, United States
4.5 (55 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #1 in Aleutian Islands Visitor Centers
Must See in Dutch Harbor
This is a small but well thought out museum located on the second floor of the visitors center. This was the the former air base control tower and houses a movie room, photos and original radio equipment that was actually used during World War Two. It offers a great view of the present airport to view any activity occuring.

cool old radio equipment upstairs
I thought it was great. They were a little surprised when we showed up. They were not expecting tourists to be on the island so no one was actually there as they weren't expecting guests. Paid $5 to get in. They had lots of good stuff. I especially liked the upstairs with all the old radio equipment. They also have an amazing runway view if you like spotting airplanes.

Small but very well done
First floor displays consist of photos, personal stories, and smaller objects. Second floor houses actual communication equipment and clothing used by US soldiers. Also shows several US Navy films about pre- and post- WWII aircraft carriers. Takes about 45-60 minutes to see everything.
