    worth a visit
This was a very informative museum about many subjects. For starters, there is an impressive whale skeleton hanging in the lobby. They show several movies for which there is supposed to be an extra charge, but for some unknown reason the movies were free the day of our visit. We saw the one about the northern lights which gave a good explanation of how they occur. We saw the whale movie in Anchorage at the Native Heritage Center. There are many exhibits depicting the wildlife, history, and culture of Alaska. There is a very interesting exhibit about the Japanese who were interred during WWII which includes an hour long movie if you have the time. They have large collections of stuffed animals and native artifacts. There are also dinosaur bones, gemstones, and sea shells. Upstairs there is a large and very diverse art exhibit depicting Alaskan art and culture. There is also a room where you listen to a depiction of the sound of the aurora and are to draw your own thoughts and conclusions. They have a cafe to grab a quick lunch too. We were there for over 3 hours. It is a very informative and educational experience.

    Great museum
Very good job with this museum. We are traveling with a 2 year old and driving an RV. There is plenty of RV parking. Because a 2 year old has a short attention span, our ability to see very much was limited. We watched a great film on the northern lights. I appreciated the fact that the film educated as well as showing beautiful views of the lights. We also were able to spend a lot of time in the main exhibit room on the first floor. A lot to read and take in. I could come back tomorrow and still see new things I missed. I will come back some day. Well worth your time to come (but leave the 2 year old at home!)
