Muddy Fun!

Tommy is absolutely a great tour-guide, ATV teacher, and gentleman. Our flight was delayed and we would have missed our tour, but Tommy (Phillips) moved our tour to the next day without hesitation. The tour itself was a blast and my family enjoyed the combination UTV/ATV experience (we were all first-time drivers and Tommy couldn't have been nicer/more patient). At the end, we stopped at the store for some ice cream to top off our great time with Glacier View. Thanks guys for a great and muddy time!

What a Great Way to Spend an Afternoon!!!
My husband and I both think this is one of the best things we did in Alaska, without a doubt. We are in our early 70's, My husband had been on an ATV before but I had not even though I have driven tractors before and had a rural upbringing. Point is, this isn't necessarily just for the young, athletic outdoorsy types. I booked our trip months in advance and didn't know exactly what to expect. Had even considered cancelling at one point. I really assumed we might be in a group of several people just roaming around dusty, open areas. It was definitely NOT that!! Tommy is a patient, kind, encouraging man who clearly loves the land he's chosen to be on. He encouraged me to at least try operating my own ATV as it would be more fun for me than riding along with him on the UTV or behind my husband. He chose a machine with power steering and as smooth a ride as they probably get. Easy to operate. He made clear that if, at any time, I was uncomfortable I could just stop and switch to the UTV. He took us for a "test run" down a road to the Matanuska riverbed and eventually back up to our starting place. When he had assured himself that my husband and I were both comfortable and careful, we went across the Glenn Highway and onto a variety of trails. And it was obvious Tommy was watching how well we adjusted and adapted to each trail before he took us somewhere more challenging. We wound all around through endless wooded areas, meadows, across small streams, rural roads, and high into the mountain. In many places it was rough and rocky and muddy, but if you're driving your own machine you can control the speed and, to a large extent, how rough it gets. (I have a bad back.) And it was simply gorgeous. Wildflowers everywhere in the woods and in the mountains. When we stopped, Tommy talked about moose and bears in the area, the glacier, showed us places marred by the slide from a recent earthquake whose epicenter had been nearby. It was just a fun, fun afternoon. Highly recommend!! (Your shoes and clothing may get wet and/or muddy but you will have fun.)
