Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail, Alabama, United States

4.5 (479 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Orange Beach Hiking Trails

Nature trails

We were in Orange Beach during chilly weather, so beach was less desirable. But the sun shone brightly & temps were just right for walking the trails. Others using the trails offered friendly greetings. Enjoyed the feeling of being in a natural environment. We stopped at the visitors center & got a map of the trails.

    Walking & Biking Trails
These are nice paved walking/biking trails. There were actually more bicycles than walkers, and they even have free bicycles you can borrow. Trails are wide enough not to be a problem, although we were there at a time with lower crowds. Wildlife was decent, including birds and small animals. There are plenty of benches along the way if you want to stop and rest. There are scenic places, but some of the trail can be out in the sun and not as scenic. There are many connecting trails, so many options for exploring - including some side "alligator trails" that are not paved and a little sketchy looking (but maybe good for the more adventurous).

Nice place to walk & bike
Walked a small part of 2 trails while I was in the area on vacation. I think the description of "backcountry" in the name can be misleading as at least the parts I walked didn't feel like I was in the backcountry. Very well maintained paved trails and boardwalks. I would recommend for people who like wide level and well maintained walking / bike paths. I wish I had had time to rent a bike as that seems like it would be the best way to enjoy this place.
