A Delightful Stroll

We picked up a brochure at the Visitor's Center that described this charming walk and offered a few pictures to help guide you. Each block offered another arcitectural treasure. We started with lunch at the "Spot of Tea" and continued out of town. When we got to the end, we came back up Government Street to the Mardi Gras Museum. A perfect afternoon!

A place out of time and space
I love Dauphin Street. It reminds me so much of the French Quarter in New Orleans but is grand in it's own right. I've walked it and driven down it. To me it really is the heart of night life in downtown Mobile. A good number of restaurants and bars to choose from. Some with live music.. Beautiful architecture and delicate lace like iron works are just gorgeous.I feel like I've stepped out of time whenever I'm here. I love everything about downtown Mobile, but Dauphin Street really is its crown jewel.

    An Enjoyable Area To Visit
We were in Mobile attending a convention. Twice, during some free time, we visited Dauphin Street. While there we did eat at a couple of restaurants and attended a movie (see reviews elsewhere), thus this review is of the street in general and of the two parks in particular. The first park is Cathedral Square, in front of the cathedral. It is nice tree lined open area surrounded by restaurants and other night life. It is a good place to people watch, especially those dining at "Spot of Tea" which is across Dauphin Street. The other park is Bienville Square, a couple of blocks closer to the river. This is a larger park. It had a couple of art installations remaining from the Oyster Shell Community Art Project in 2013. These were oversized oyster shell sculptures which had been decorated to depict Mobile history and culture. I subsequently learned that there were several others along Dauphin Street which I did not notice. All in all, the street is a pleasant way to pass some free time. I recommend visiting it.
