Outstanding Owner Of A Marvelous Theater

We were visiting Mobile for the first time while attending a convention. Before going we had looked at things to do in Mobile and noted the high reviews the Crescent Theater had. On the first day we were there, during some free time, we went walking around the downtown area. We encountered the Crescent Theater and noticed it was showing a movie we wanted to see. Not having the time to see it then, we returned to our hotel. Later in the week we had an afternoon free and made a beeline to the theater. While we were expecting a quaint theater, we had not expected the delightful owner who sold us the tickets and then chatted with us for quite a while. He alone was worth the price of admission. Needless to say we also enjoyed the show I expect to be back in Mobile in June 2023 and will definitely go see whatever is showing. I only regret that there is not an equivalent place near my home

Throwback to an old town theater
I happened upon the Crescent Theater while looking for things for my wife and I and another couple to do in Mobile Al. The Crescent is a throwback to old town small theaters which are becoming hard to find. Max the owner/ticket seller/ticket taker/seller of concessions/projectionist is the ultimate host. He was very friendly and accommodating. We were early for the show and paid for our tickets and chatted with Max. We mentioned that we were planning to go to Felix's Fish House for dinner. Max called the restaurant and made reservations for us with waterfront seating. He then said if we wanted to go into the theater early we could reserve some of the front row recliners. We each got a beer or wine from the cooler and Max said don't worry about it, just stop buy and square up after the movie. You can even help yourself to another beverage during the movie. Only the second time in my life where I have encountered a proprietor who trusted complete strangers? Before the movie started, Max spoke in front of the audience with a brief introduction to the movie "Still Alice" for which the actress had just received an Academy Award for Best Actress a couple nights prior. The sound system was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed the movie while sipping a cocktail from our recliners. After the movie we paid for our drinks and talked about how great the entire experience was. An added treat was that before the show, we stopped across the street from the theater at A&M Peanut Shop and purchased reduced price peanuts for feeding squirrels. They also have delicious nuts and candy. Then we walked across to the adjacent Bienville Park and knelt down and most squirrels will take a nut from between your fingers. We were also glad we visited the Mobile Carnival (Mardi Gras) Museum the same afternoon.

    Something special
If you are looking for a night at the movies this is the place. Small but beautifull. Film selection is great (if you do not expect Blockbusters). What I liked best was the guy who runs the place. Before the movie he welcomed the vistiters and talked about the upcomming movie. If I am ever back in the area , I will come back!
