It was ok, a neat bit of history
It's not going to be your highlight in Jordan by any stretch of the imagination. Unless it's the only place you go, I s'pose, in which case you need to re-examine your trip-planning skills. But this was a decent way to pass half an hour. We took a walk around the site with the help of our LP guide. A "guide" also accompanied us and encouraged us to jump into the ruins and such, but he didn't speak English and the signs there are, for the most part, faded or ruined. Recommend you read up about it before you go, and try to imagine this place back in the day.

    Ancient archaeological site of Ayla
This is right by the north beach area where the 4* and 5* hotels are located between the Movenpick and the Gateway. Until 2013, this site was free. Now it costs 1 JD to enter. You can walk through the ruins of the old city in about 30 minutes. There are posted signs in Arabic and English. This and the Castle are the best ancient ruins you will find in the city (but that isn't saying much). You find much better in Amman or in Israel.
