An incomprehensable amount of turquoise water

This long ca. 200 km river which is the only outlet from the Lago General Carrera and spills its enormous quantity of turquoise glacial water into the fjords around Caleta Tortel can be seen from many places but one of the most dramatic places is shortly south of Bertrand at "Confluencias" where the turquoise Baker meets a small river of more brownish color from the nearby clacier. A 15 min hike will take you to the dramatic outlook of where the two rivers and colors meet.

One of the last great rivers left untouched by humans.
This river Starts at Lake General Carrera, the water is sparkling blue, so glad the effort to build a Dam here failed, its a majestic river thanks to the gauchos of Chile who started the protest and awareness to stop the Dam, it became a massive movement that succeded. when the river meets the flow of the Neff river which is glacial light green color they blend into a new river and its breathtaking, the Columbia river was once like this but we destroyed it with 14 dams.

Do the confluence walk to appreciate the nature and rivers
From Puerto Betrand, along the Carretera Austral, about 20 km south is the "Salto del Baker" and the confluence. On the road side is a sign and gate. From there it is 10 min walk down over a private property (for sale). On this walk we saw the smallest owl of Chili/world. The very blue and clear water from the Rio Baker has a small waterfall and than mingles with the greyish glacier water from the Rio Nef. While the very first part of the Rio Baker is used for rafting from Puerto Bertrand, after the confluence the river gets really wild with huge rapids. That part is only for suicidal rafters or kayakkers.
