- 5.0 Inniswood Metro Gardens (314 reviews)
-A magical walk through the garden
Gardens
This is a really great place to explore! There are several paths that lead to various areas of the garden. You'll find so many unique and interesting things throughout the garden. I really loved the boardwalk paths, stone bridges, and gardens of course. The 3 sisters garden was super cute and probably my favorite part of the entire place. The story maze in particular was adorable! There were so many squirrels along the path just hanging out which really surprised me. We're from the hocking hills and you usually don't see squirrels quite that closely. My husband remarked that they're city squirrels and are used to people feeding them. I highly recommend visiting, especially with kids. It is very stroller friendly. Best of all... it's free and has plenty of parking. See more..

- 5.0 Highlands Aquatic Park (4 reviews)
-Great Water park
Water Parks
This is a nice little water park with 4 pools, diving area, 2 water slides, lazy river, concessions, and lots of seating. Water seemed heated also so it was a plus on a cool day. We were planning to go to the zoo water park but found this. It is inexpensive ($8.50), clean, and well maintained park run by the city of Westerville. It was close to where we were staying with only a limited amount of time, so I'm glad we found this. Staff was polite and helpful. Plenty of free parking, and grounds outside for picnicking or playing. Well landscaped and very attractive park. Plenty of bike paths for the locals and very nice setting. I hope they can keep this like this for the next time we are in town. The kids really liked it. See more..

- 5.0 Galena Brewing Company (2 reviews)
-A special brewery tucked away in quite a secret space
Breweries
Great brewery, but take a close look at the tap list. Each of GBC’s own beer is named after a movie scene or phrase - can you name some of the movies? And even though the brewery is named Galena Brewery it’s actually in Westerville, Ohio - which really isn’t all that far from Galena. It is tucked away in a little hidden and secret place, but you will find it! They also serve wine and spirits. They are only open Thursday-Sunday. They do bring in food (like On the Fly Pizza) but just across the street is a great italian restaurant as well. They have trivia night and a great “merch” selection. Check out the fun painted mural on the wall, even Mary Jensen is depicted (aka Cameron Diaz...). See more..
- 5.0 Alum Creek Trail (1 review)
-A trail for every interest
Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
Alum Creek Trail is an awesome trail that follows and crosses Alum Creek numerous times on attractive bridges. And along the trail, there are several points of interest including community parks and memorial parks. The trail runs 23 miles basically north-south from Westerville to Columbus (Three Creeks Park). This review is for the section of the trail north of Casto Park (a length of about six miles). The trail is asphalt paved and adequate caution signs are posted at the few road crossings. Most of the trail is naturally shaded and the trail is in great shape. Features worth a stop and exploration are Heritage Park, First Responders Park and Astronaut Grove. Being next to a robust creek, Alum Creek Trail also provides great birding opportunities. One will certainly enjoy spending hours and hours on Alum Creek Trail. See more..
- 5.0 Astronaut Grove (1 review)
-Small but Memorable memorial Park
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues • Scenic Walking Areas
I stopped by Astronaut Grove in Westerville while biking the Alum Creek Trail in December. It is a relatively small park, and only a short stop would be sufficient to get the essence of the park. But, at the same time it is a memorial park where one can spend time pondering the contributions and sacrifice by astronauts. The brick walkway includes small star-shaped plaques dedicated to martyrs of the Apollo 1 and Challenger accidents. There is a sculpture “Reaching for the Stars” dedicated to the future of space exploration at the circular end of the brick walkway. Astronaut Grove is certainly worth a stop if you are in the area. - 5.0 Big Walnut Trail (1 review)
-Nice trail and a huge park to go with it
Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
The still in-progress Big Walnut Trail (BWT) follows its namesake creek through Columbus and its eastern suburbs of Westerville, Gahanna, and Whitehall. Three separate sections are now open, and I biked the north section in Westerville. This segment runs from Red Bank Boat Parking north to south and ends at Central College, a distance of about 3.5 miles. At the south end, one can continue on a connecting trail (after crossing street) another half mile to reach the lovely Inniswood Metro Gardens. This second short trail is called the Chipmunk Chatter Trail. The main park that the BWT trail goes through is the huge Hoover Reservoir Park, which offers a vast variety of recreational opportunities including an expansive Disc Golf course, hiking & birding trails, a small beach, a walkway on the dam. Near the north, the trail also has a connection with the much longer Towers Trail network. The trail is asphalt paved and provides a combination of riding through the woods and urban areas. I wish there were trail maps and mile markers at more frequent intervals. In the absence, it would be better to have looked up the trail on the internet before getting there. But the Big Walnut Trail is a nice trail and is very popularly used. See more..
- 5.0 Westerville Community Center (1 review)
-Fun day rock climbing at indoor rock wall
Spent 2-3 hours Sports Complexes
The community center has lots of activities for members and non-members both (just purchase a daily pass). There are classes and programs available too. They have indoor pools: Leisure Pool that is like a mini-water park, Competition Pool and Whirlpool, a gym for basketball and volleyball, climbing wall, fitness room with lots of equipment, and track. We spent an hour or so on the rock wall. There are four sections of wall with four levels of difficulty. We had a quick introduction and started. If you follow the rules, it is a nice competitive way to spend a morning or afternoon. They have all the equipment you need. When we were there, a few folks were choosing not to follow all of the rules. One child got hurt after following along with what his father was doing instead of the directions that were clearly provided. Felt bad for the kid, but geez people, the rules are there to protect everyone. I would say this would be a perfect rainy or snowy day place to visit to get active and have some fun. See more..

- 4.5 Blendon Woods Park (44 reviews)
-Lovely and enjoyable park
Spent 1-2 hours Parks
Visited Blendon Woods one December afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed walking through the woods. A special feature of the park are the ravines with exposed ripple rock sandstone. Take a view of a sample of ripple rock at the Visitor Center before going on the trails. The Walden Waterfowl Refuge comprising Thoreau Lake provides a sanctuary for birds and other wildlife. There are two bird view shelters with binoculars at the end of the Lake Trail. Several trails criss-cross through the beautiful woods with views of the lake, the creeks and bluffs. The Overlook Trail, the Lake Trail and the Ripple Rock Trail are not to be missed. The Visitor Center was closed when I visited due to the pandemic. Blendon Woods is a lovely and enjoyable park. Located a short distance from downtown New Albany, this is the newest of the Columbus area metro parks . There is a dog park; picnic area; horse trail; children’s play area and a 1.25 mile asphalt paved walking and biking trail. The park is very well maintained. - 4.0 Anti-Saloon League Museum (2 reviews)
-Neat slice of history
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums
This was a pleasant surprise, and a location where you could get lost in the archives for hours. There's a whole lot of history in this small space, about the fight against alcohol & alcoholism - some of it legit, and some of it quite outlandish. As a foundational component of the history of Westerville, this was a neat find. See more..
- 3.5 Phelps Acre Park (4 reviews)
-A Play Area for your Children after Visiting Inniswood Metro Garden
Spent < 1 hour Playgrounds
If you approach Inniswood Metro Garden from the south, you will pass right by this charming little park. It is on the corner of a busy intersection and only has parking for about four cars. Calling it an acre may be an exaggeration. The positives for this include: it is free - it is near Inniswood which is great if you have children to need to play after visiting the Metro Garden. The play area can accommodate just a few children. The park includes to little four-seat picnic tables. Negatives are its size and parking. See more..
