One of my favorite parks in the Toledo Metropark system, this park gives you all the beauty and thrill of nature! I highly recommend visiting in the fall... early to mid November. The leaves are amazing with their colors! When visiting, I suggest parking at the Lodge and walking trails down to Mallard Lake. You can do the Blue trail to see quite a bit of the area around there, including many bird species! See more..

  8. 5.0 Toledo Symphony Orchestra (28 reviews)
    - Underappreciated/undiscovered gem.
    Symphonies
    Toledo Symphony Orchestra image
We recently saw the Brahms v. Radiohead mashup. It was as awesome as I had hoped it would be! This is the type of innovative programming the Toledo Symphony has been doing for many years now. Mixed media presentations, orchestra and ballet, you name it. Too many northwest Ohioans do not know what a treasure we have available to us. We drive from an hour away to take in a show, and it's always well worth it. But don't take my word for it, every guest conductor complements the caliber of musicianship of the members and their dedication to their craft and the community. Do yourself a favor; check out the upcoming performances of classics, pops, jazz, chamber, whatever you think you may be interested in. Support the arts! See more..

Metroparks of the Toledo Area image
I have been to the Oak Openings only twice and was introduced by my beau who is from Ohio and completed his PhD here. The diversity of plants is quite impressive....there are just so many varieties of grasses, sedges, and shrubs and most of them are native. The trails are well maintained, and the infrastructure in the parks is really lovely. Its hard to know how Toledo keeps up with these huge parks but they are well maintained, and a birder's and botanists dream. See more..

  16. 4.5 Huntington Center (212 reviews)
    - Great Venue
    Saturday: Arenas & Stadiums
    Huntington Center image
Not too large. Set up depends on the show. We went for a concert. Had seats on the floor behind standing only section. Visibility was still pretty good. Acoustics were fair could not always hear the words to the songs clearly. Security was quick to escort any one out of the area who did not have a ticket for that area. Only drawback they put the concert merchandise on the second floor so after the concert we had to go upstairs as the mob was coming down the stairs to exit, chaos. Parking on the street and several lots around the facility. See more..

    - Learned so much
    Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
    Glass Pavilion image
I rate this as an excellent museum because i learned so much from it. The docents/volunteers were generous in sharing their knowledge with us and their love of glass/art/history. The hour spent there was a mixture of amazement that glass has been around for so long ( since thousands of years b.c. ) and awe that pieces of it have survived intact for so long. Also enjoyed seeing the many modern pieces of art glass. See more..

  23. 4.5 Swan Creek Metropark (37 reviews)
    - A nice urban park for a walk in the woods
    Saturday: Parks
    Swan Creek Metropark image
My wife and I drive by this park every day on our way to work. On a gorgeous Sunday afternoon in early October, we decided to explore it. The park is not large but contains more than 5 miles of mostly wooded trails, many of them along or near the Swan Creek. We passed several other couples and families out for walks but the park didn't feel crowded at all. You could hear traffic in the background but it was still nice to be surrounded by trees. We saw two deer (in separate spots) and the coolest preying mantis I have ever seen. A fair number of families were enjoying the playground or cooking out in the picnic areas. All in all, a very nice urban park. See more..
  24. 4.5 Walbridge Park (30 reviews)
    - Family picnic!
    Parks
    Walbridge Park image
This was a visit for getting together with my parents who live in Ohio past Toledo. This is a nice sized park that sits right along a river?! There are two parts of the park, that I saw. It has two playground sets, a set of toddler swings and a set of big kid swings. Not sure where the bathrooms are, if there are any. There are benches, and picnic tables, and trash cans. Paved sidewalks throughout from the paved parking lot. There were even geese. I def'ly would come back. See more..

    - A great view of the Maumee River and Toledo, Ohio
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
    Veteran's Glass City Skyway image
This is a very interesting looking bridge and is high enough over the river that lake freighters easily pass underneath. A great view of the area. I understand that you must be careful in the winter as ice can accumulate on the overhead cables and on occasion have dropped on automobiles. Not sure if this problem has been corrected. See more..

  30. 4.0 Historic Old West End (45 reviews)
    - Historic neighborhood with lovely diverse architecture
    Neighborhoods • Historic Walking Areas
    Historic Old West End image
On a recent daytrip to Toledo, we spent a bit of time walking through this historic neighborhood. Primary goal was to see the Libbey House, simply to learn more about the couple that established the Toledo Art Museum. I had no idea that the house was just a block from the main museum building! After seeing that house, we walked several more blocks to enjoy the diverse architecture of the area. At one house, the owners were out in front working on their landscaping, so we stopped to talk with them for a good 10 minutes and learned some additional history of their house and the neighborhood. Definitely worth a look-see on a nice day for walking. Recommend using Internet resources to find a map of the neighborhood with the addresses and details before you go. See more..
