Historic Sites

The Thompson Town Hall and Park are also known as Thompson Square. It's a great place for a picnic, or to just relax while enjoying the peaceful town atmosphere. We stopped here on our way through town and were charmed by the quaint and very well-kept grounds. There was a lot of grass to sit on and numerous benches. There are also a couple of restaurants across the street. Thompson is an interesting place for a couple of reasons. First, Charles Hall, the developer of modern aluminum is from here. Second, if you are interested in LDS church history, the Colesville saints from New York stayed here for a short time on land donated temporarily by local resident and convert Leman Copley. Joseph Smith visited them here and received section 51 of the Doctrine and Covenants. See more..
