- 5.0 Nicholls State University (36 reviews)
-The Harvard on the Bayou
Educational sites
Nicholls is along Bayou Teche, in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana in the city of Thibodaux. It is beautiful, and a wonderful place to send your children. It is safe, the professors care as do the people of Thibodeaux. I just enrolled my son there. All undergraduates live and eat on the campus. The university is safe, the professors care about the students. Tutors are available for any student in any class. The professors are willing to spend time with the students who might need help also. The school is in a small town which is away from the big cities . College athletics are played. Programs are available for students with ADHD. The food is excellent. See more..
- 5.0 Chef John Folse Culinary Institute (13 reviews)
-What an education
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Cooking Classes
Their is so much to learn about food and this is the experience of one of a kind. The professional hands on approach is unlike anything you will ever see. We ate at LaBistro where they teach students every aspeck of running a restaurant. If you have a chance to get in, do not miss this great experience. When they move to the new location on campus, I think they will bring the culinary education to a grander level. See more..

- 5.0 St. Joseph Co-Cathedral (5 reviews)
-Beautiful and historical!
Spent 1-2 hours Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
I was surprised to see no reviews on this church. It is a spiritual place and an architectural work of art both inside and out, designed in the Renaissance Romanesque style of Europe. I very much enjoy taking pictures of historic buildings and this was an excellent choice. My preference is to take those of catholic churches and since times have changed and many churches have to lock their doors for security, I try to arrive a half hour to an hour before mass time. That way I can take photos around the building and inside, without disturbing those that are praying. Usually I participate in the mass; that way I can not only get the spiritual effect, but it also allows me time to absorb the intricate craft and design inside the building. Of course with all the stained glass windows, statues, lights, etc., it is hard to see and appreciate everything in an hour or two, but it is well worth a visit! See more..

- 4.5 E. D. White Historic Site (24 reviews)
-Very Informative
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Historic Sites
Exploring this National Historic Landmark will offer both a tour through a historical structure and the culture that surrounded the home throughout history. Situated on the banks of Bayou Lafourche, this was the residence of two of Louisiana’s prominent political figures: Governor Edward Douglas White and his son, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Edward Douglass White. The exhibition in this historic house tells the story of the Bayou Lafourche area, tracing the history of the indigenous Chitimacha, Acadian settlers, slavery, sugar cane plantations and the White family. This beautiful antebellum home was built with hand-hewn cypress around 1824. Staff guided tours of the house and grounds are available. Free Admission! See more..

Children's Museums
I'm honored to be a founding member of the Bayou Country Children's Museum. When I returned last year with my nieces and nephews from Mauritius & England, I was utterly pleased to see the museum full of guests and staff enjoying it to its fullest potential. I've had the privilege of traveling the world, and I've visited countless museums on several continents. I'm proud to say our little Bayou Museum can hold its own!!!! It's a first class facility that combines a strong educational component with local representations of good ole' fashion pure kiddo fun :) See more..

-Lost in Time
Cemeteries
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and created in 1843, many historically significant figures are buried here. A peaceful oasis, this Cemetery is more along the lines of a sculpture garden than a cemetery. Guided Tours are available through the NPS via the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park & Preserve. - 4.5 Martha Sowell Utley Memorial Library (7 reviews)
-More than just books
Libraries
There are not too many places to hang out in Thibodaux that don’t involve eating or drinking. When the temperatures outside get too hot for you, stop by the library on 5th street to soak in some AC and Hemingway and Rolling Stone magazine. I like to come here to read the papers and magazines, and check out a book and DVD. There are worse things you can do in Thibodaux. See more..
- 4.0 Laurel Valley Village (43 reviews)
-Full of Louisiana History
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
What a great little find! My Dad heard about Laurel in tv and so we decided to check it out. Laurel Valley was the largest sugar plantation in the country with over 5,000 acres at one time. Now, roughly 3,500 acres, it’s still a working plantation. The Lauren Valley Store/Museum offers a look back in history; chock full of antique tractors, sewing machines and the like. Take a stroll around the grounds near the store to see the outside tools up close and to feed chickens, pat a goat and see peacocks. Take a drive down a public road that goes right through the plantation. What a treat! See more..
