- 5.0 Pudge's (2 reviews)
-Lovely bar with great welcoming people on the East End!
Spent 1-2 hours Bars & Clubs
We were attracted to Pudges as the front door was decorated with beautiful sprays of Fall vegetation and at first I thought it was a floral shop. The interior is clean and has a back bar of oak and mirrors that is attractive and well maintained. The beer selection is good and the people stopping were people who clearly used this as their "go-to" bar as they seemed to know each other. That did not detract from a welcoming atmosphere displayed by the woman who tended bar. She and her husband run this bar. She was engaging and helpful in telling us of places to eat. I don't know if Pudges offers food as we didn't inquire, but if you're looking for a great beer in a great environment, this place is classy. See more..

Built as the family home of mining and lumber baron Martin Pattison, the four story, 42 room mansion was completed in 1890 at the cost of $150,000; estimated at today's costs to be well over $3 million. The exterior and first floor of the mansion have been completely restored to the original splendor, with gilded murals on the ceilings and frieze, a grand entrance hall and open staircase, marble and tile fireplaces, and original leaded and stained glass windows. The second floor of the mansion includes access to master bedroom suite, furnished much as it was during the Pattisons’ time in the house. The third floor is dedicated to the Children’s Home era from 1920 to 1964, when the mansion served as a home to the less fortunate. -Put this on your list of things to do (weather permitting of course!)
Spent More than 3 hours Caverns & Caves
If it gets cold enough to freeze over this area of Lake Superior so that you can walk on the ice and into the Ice Caves, be sure to take the walk. We last went in March of 2014 (this form only allows us to list our visit as one year ago btw) during a particularly cold winter, and although the walk from the parking lot to the caves is about a mile (a guess), it was worth it. Truly a wonder to behold and highly recommended. See more..

- 4.5 Earth Rider Brewery (10 reviews)
-Exit to Wisconsin on your way to Duluth
Spent 1-2 hours Breweries
My wife, who is not a beer drinker, had enjoyed one of their products on tap at a local restaurant, so we decided to stop in to quench our thirst after a drive north from Mpls-St Paul. Mid afternoon, the taproom was quiet, and attended by two freiendly knowledgable employees. Great that the brewers converted an old neglected dive bar into a very attractive nostalgia trip--but the centerpiece is the beer. Tasted a couple of fruity ales (her type), an excellent IPA and an award winning stout (my types). They also have a smooth and lovely coffee ale that I would have enjoyed at another time. See more..
