Taliesin, the home, studio and estate of Frank Lloyd Wright, is located in the Driftless Region of southwestern Wisconsin near Spring Green. It is the name of Wright’s house as well as the 800-acre estate that includes buildings from all decades of Wright’s career. Its many wings and terraces reach out around the ridge of the hill, embracing the site and standing as “brow.” Taliesin was the residence of Wright and the valley was his inspiration and life-long laboratory for architectural designs and innovation. Taliesin represents the most complete embodiment of Wright’s philosophy of Organic Architecture. The Taliesin residence is the heart of a series of buildings that Wright designed for himself and his family members on the estate. And, in fact, their online ordering is seamless if there is something you need but they don't have it in stock. I also enjoy some of the whimsical literary gifts they sell, as well as the delish coffees, teas, and treats. This is the starting point for all Taliesin tours. The building was designed by FLW, but didn’t live long enough to see it constructed. The staff and volunteers here are friendly and helpful. The sit-down restaurant is not currently open due to Covid (June 2022), but some grab and go food is available for purchase and you may eat in the restaurant sitting area, which overlooks Tower Hill State Park and the Wisconsin River. There are a few picnic tables outside too. The gift shop is nice. Take a few moments to shop there. Your purchases go to maintain and preserve the property. This was an interesting hike. It starts out as a prairie hike with some sightings of cactus, which I have never seen in the midwest before. It then starts a gradual uphill with the vegetation increasing and path narrowing. You end up in the woods going uphill until you reach a pretty overlook which looks over a hilly farm land. It was very nice overall. The only complaint I have is that the path was pretty narrow and the actual overlook was very hard to find. The plants were so overgrown and the path continued to the right so I missed it the first time. As we were walking up someone mentioned there was poison ivy, and it made me worried since there were so many plants growing into the path. We were wearing long pants, and didn't have any problems, but it did make me wish the path was wider. See more..

This museum is advertised virtually nowhere. If you know of its existence, you can find the website online. Otherwise you will probably never come across this place, unless like me you're driving around looking for an adventure. But now reading this review, you know it exists, and taken purposeful trip there, if you're local history buff. Museum consists of the museum proper, and one-room school. The owner and the employee there were very welcoming and attentive. They both personalized the items by explaining history behind any object I inquired about. I enjoyed the ride out there and my brief visit. The only downfall is the the store is in an old barn and is very moldy smelling. There is also a distinct cat urine smell that probably can't be cleaned out. It felt like I was in a museum, because the items were so unique and historical too, but the whole business is so old school, like how small businesses used to be run 50 years ago- personal dealings from merchant to customer. We stopped here after a day on the motorcycles and seeing House On THe Rock. There isn't much in Spring Green, so we were hard pressed to find someplace for lunch in the area, and stumbled across this little bar. It was very full for being a Saturday afternoon - both bar and dining room had enough people in it for being around 2pm. Probably because there just isn't anyplace else to eat? Not sure. We sat down at the bar to order food, and the menu was extensive. We settled on the Jake burger (both of us) and it was a huge burger and was really great - a really nice different spin on a burger and not just your same old, same old. Our waitress was Macy who I think was the bartender's daughter (possibly owner?? Not sure). But Macy was really nice to us (we aren't regulars or locals) and attentive. I travel to this store a couple times a year because we love the area and this store specifically. They have nice seasonal displays both inside and out. Lots of handmade and other outdoor furniture with an emphasis on Adirondack style. Inside the store you will lots of find home decor, baby items, clothing and a small ice cream "shop" with a dozen or so flavors. The staff is VERY cordial. See more..

I don't even want to give them one star!!! This place was SO rude!!! I have been going here for years, feeding animals, buying produce etc...went today and tried to go feed animals with my kids only to be stopped and told the animals were for "paying customers." I told them I was going to buy food outside in the machines for the animals, so I was a paying customer and they asked me and my kids to leave! I told them there wasn't a reason to get angry, I just wanted clarification and didn't understand because I have been going here for years. The only answer I got was to be asked to leave.
