I was traveling through Rector, AR on my way north on US 49 and I happened to see the new Veterans Memorial Park as you enter downtown Rector. The park features a statue of an Arkansas Soldier, and the names of the fallen are on a wall behind the statue. The park is very well done, with paved walkways and garden areas. Just to the north of the park is the restored City Jail, which now houses the Chamber of Commerce. I visited both. The man inside the Chamber building was very friendly and helpful. The city of Rector did an excellent job restoring the old jail since it seems like new inside. A restroom was also available for travelers. I'm glad I stopped to visit, and I left Rector with a very favorable opinion of the small town in the Northeast corner of Arkansas. See more..
