  1. 5.0 Horne Creek Living Historical Farm (43 reviews)
    - Historical farm is worth a stop
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites

This is a very interesting place to visit to learn about farm life in turn of the century North Carolina. The hosts are very knowledgeable about this working farm and you are free to explore the grounds and tour this beautiful old farmhouse at your leisure. We were greeted by a friendly white cat as soon as we entered the visitor center as well as a beautiful beagle, and then by a very friendly mule, “Charlie”, as we walked down the path to the farm and entered the pasture and barn area. There are goats and chickens too. The house is very interesting with period furnishings, gorgeous hand made quilts, etc and is a very unique step back in time. There is a gift shop at the visitor center and since it is a working farm, they sell the vegetables they grow on the farm in season. It’s a very educational experience for adults and children alike! 2. 5.0 Rock Dimensions (21 reviews)
    - Great time with a great guide
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Climbing Tours
    Rock Dimensions image
My 15 year old son and I climb occasionally indoors and have had a few outdoor trips. We were in Boone for a short time and last minute decided to try to climb. Rock Dimensions, though they usually require more lead time, was so accommodating and got us a guide. Ryan took us out for a half day just outside of town. It was a beautiful spot in the woods with lots of routes. Safety- both climbing and Covid 19- was excellent. Ryan warmed us up on easier routes and worked us up to challenging ones. He instinctively knew when to let us figure things out and when to give us coaching. In just a few hours we got to climb multiple routes, and we had a fantastic time. From here on out we plan on calling Rock Dimensions every time we are in town. See more..

Great experience and doesn’t take too long to see. Only need a couple of hours to see everything and very convenient to US 52 highway. You could tell there has been a fire but the views are still beautiful and everything is open. This includes a brand new and spacious visitors center at the base. You can drive up to the top of Little Pinnacle, which is next to the top of the Big Pinnacle on weekdays. On weekends there is usually a shuttle to the top (March-Nov) but check website to make sure. To avoid the crowds go on a weekday or go early on weekends. Went here on a sunny Friday in early April and it wasn’t crowded at all. Once at the top, there are spectacular views of the Piedmont and the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you have 30 minutes, make sure to take the .8 mile Jamokee trail loop, which walks from Little Pinnacle to the Big Pinnacle. This trail has spectacular views of Hanging Rock and Flat Mountains to the East. See more..

Pilot Mountain Vineyards And Winery image
Wow! The view of Pilot Mountain is absolutely stunning. You look across a rolling hill into the woods and then Pilot Mountain is in the distance. The tasting room's architecture compliments the landscape to enjoy the surroundings and is as sharp to see on its own. The owners are so welcoming and enjoy sharing their story. We tried two different flights as we sat on the back patio. Definitely worth visiting and enjoying the moment. See more..
  7. 4.0 Colonel Jack Martin Rock House (3 reviews)
    - Fascinating brief visit
    Historic Sites
Colonel Jack Martin Rock House image
Really fascinating to see this huge house made of rocks which dates back to the Revolutionary War period. It is in process of being saved and restored and as such is surrounded by a tall metal fence, but you can still walk all the way around and see it well. The signage inside the fence is faded and not very informative. The Stokes County Historical website has great info on Col. Martin and the house (but no directions or address...and none for their museum either that we saw) but the map through TripAdvisor got us there easily. There is NOTHING out that way...has us before you go! See more..
