  1. 5.0 Sallie Mae Ligon Museum & Archives (1 review)
    - interesting museum

Sallie Mae Ligon Museum & Archives image
The Sallie Mae Ligon Museum & Archives is located on the campus of the Masonic Home for Children. It is the first and oldest operating home for children in North Carolina dating back to 1873 (then called the Oxford Orphan Asylum). The museum is small but I found it to be very well organized with nice displays and plenty of interesting reading material to give you a good history of the place. We checked in with a very nice lady who walked us through the room giving us a brief history and then we were allowed to go back through on our own to read whatever we wanted to. After finishing with the museum section (used to be the boys dorm) we walked down the hall to the archives room (used to be the girls dorm) that offered even more interesting history of the place. Certain areas on the campus are off limits so please obey the signs and do not drive around them. See more..

  3. 4.5 Oxford Downtown Indoor Flea Market (6 reviews)
    - better than most flea markets
Spent 1-2 hours Antique Shops • Flea & Street Markets
Oxford Downtown Indoor Flea Market image
Many flea markets just offer the type of things you would see at a yard sale. Not this place. It's more of an antique/collectibles market. It was august and it was extremely hot inside (with the large open garage-type doors) so we didn't spend as much time in there as I would have liked. It's well organized and wide open. I want to go back on a cool day. See more..
  4. 4.5 Remember When Antiques (4 reviews)
    - I loved this place
Spent < 1 hour Antique Shops
    Remember When Antiques image
Remember When used to be where the Oxford Downtown Mall is now. I think the lady said it was a recent move. It's just outside of the downtown area in an adorable yellow house that I told my husband I would love to have. While walking through looking at all they offer I was even planning out where I would put the kitchen, walk-in-closets, bedrooms, living area, etc. LOL They offer antiques, new gifts, and a garden area with some great outdoor items. Some of the areas inside were crammed full of things and it made it hard to see everything so I'm sure I missed something. See more..
  5. 4.0 This & That (1 review)
    - very nice place with friendly help
    Antique Shops

I don't know if the lady at the front was the owner or not but she was so friendly. She told us all about what the building used to be and told us other things about the town. We really enjoyed talking with her. If you are looking for collectibles this is the place to be. Almost everything is small enough to easily carry to your car (some furniture but nothing oversized) . Lots of collectibles, vintage, antiques, local hand-made items, jams and jellies, books, and a bonus of ice cream, cold drinks, and locally baked goods. The main aisles are wide and clear of clutter and the booths are well organized and free of clutter. I walked out with a couple of small collectibles to add to my collections. We go through Oxford often and will be stopping in again. My only complaint was when we were there in July it was a bit too warm inside the building. If the heat bothers you I would go on a cool day. 6. 4.0 Granville County Museum and Harris Exhibit Hall (1 review)
    - 2 separate buildings
Saturday: Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
Granville County Museum and Harris Exhibit Hall image
The Granville County Museum is right across the parking lot from the Harris Exhibit Hall. The exhibit hall is in the historic "freezer locker" building and the museum is in the historic 1850 county jail. The museum covers the regions history and the exhibit hall has exhibits that rotate every 3 - 6 months (be sure to check their website). The exhibit hall had a train exhibit when we were there. All the exhibits were very well done. See more..
