   My family lives in Fort Worth, TX and wanted to go to get a Totality experience for the Eclipse, Aug 21, 2017. Originally, we were going to go to Elmira, MO - northeast of Kansas City. We drove overnight on Sunday evening/night and because of the weather forecasts had to go to the east (still in the path, and as close to the center mark of the Totality Swath). We landed in Linn, but couldn't find a park or an adequate place to pull off safely from the road. (MO shoulders are *very* narrow!) So we spent the morning searching for a suitable site. We thought we'd found our spot at the intersection of 28 and 50, but we stayed an hour (10:30 to 11:30am) and were sweltering, so down, southwest, we drove further.... and drove right into Owensville! We passed the park and saw there were a LOT of people (and cars parked) but that it was so large, there was plenty of room. We drove in and around the park and found a great location on Park Drive very close to East Hwy 28. Lots of people but all in their own little pockets with yards and yards away from each other. We staked out a claim in the shade, then moved into a sunshiny spot once the Eclipse was on its way. At the Apex of it, someone fired a cannon! And there was a general cheer heard throughout the park. Wonderful park, had a freestanding building with restrooms & a water fountain. Lovely place to walk a dog or in my case, run our Chihuahua-Manchester Terrier mix! She enjoyed that so much! Great place to stop and eat your lunch (yours or a fast-food meal-in-a-bag).    Basically right off the road there's easy access to a nice little waterfall in a pretty, picturesque creek. I started down the trail to see what else was there, but it kept getting narrower until the surrounding foliage was all over me and I caught a tick trying to take up residence on my arm, so I went back to splashing around in the creek. The water was clear enough to spot little crawdads at the bottom of thigh-deep water without even bending down to look for them. See more..
