    Hughes Home Maid Chocolates image
We were introduced to Hughes by our neighbors several years ago and instantly fell in love with the light chocolate toffee. So much so that my wife and I decided to make a roadtrip to Oshkosh expressly to buy some Hughes candy for ourselves and to give as gifts. This is your quintessential small business, located in the basement of a home in a mature residential area. Amazingly clean and sophisticated operation. So many more kinds of candy than we knew until we showed up. Needless to say, we picked up a lot to make the trip worthwhile. I highly recommend this business and encourage you to check it no matter where you live. See more..

    - Wow!

Algoma Boulevard United Methodist Church image
A parishioner collected nativity sets until she had so many, she couldn’t keep them any more so she donated them to the church. There are well over a thousand sets from all over the world. Some are quite rare (like a ivory nativity from before ivory collection was made illegal). Others are very tiny and there are even life size nativities. The collection is strikingly beautiful. 13. 5.0 Waterfest (1 review)
    - Waterfest-Inexpensive good entertainment
    Spent 2-3 hours Music Festivals
We have been going to Waterfest for years. They have an eclectic mix of bands/artists that perform over the summer (typically on Thursday nights). The entrance prices are reasonable ($20-$25)and you can usually get a discount ($15) if you buy your general admission tickets prior to 6:00 pm. This summer we saw Burton Cummings (formerly of the Guess Who) and Dennis DeYoung (formerly of Styx) perform and bought VIP tickets. Both concerts were packed and the VIP tickets got us very close to the stage as they only sell a limited number. The overall entertainment is exceptional for a small town and I would encourage checking out their schedule as there is usually something for everyone. We have and will continue to go there. Peaceful park with paved walking and bike paths on Lake Winnebago. There's a beach, playground, tennis, pickle ball, fishing, boating with kayak and canoe rentals. There is picnic areas with lots of green space. Menominee Park Zoo is also located in the park and has free admission (donations accepted) The 8 acre zoo is very well maintained and has llamas, goats, peacocks, badgers, wolves, otters, turkeys, opossums, an albino raccoon ( a first for me), a beautiful chatty macaw and other animals. We enjoyed our visit to the park so much we agreed it was well worth the 1.5 hour drive from Milwaukee. Take a drive thru downtown Oshkosh and see if you can spot all 20 mini murals painted outside of various buildings. (a map of the mural locations can be found online) See more..
  16. 4.5 Oshkosh Public Museum (98 reviews)
    - Excellent Museum
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • History Museums • Day Trips
    Oshkosh Public Museum image
This is a great museum. It’s across the street from the Paine, so was super easy to get to after viewing the Nutcracker exhibit. It’s in the beautiful Sawyer Family Victorian mansion. One fun activity is spying all of the Tiffany design elements in the mansion. There’s a comprehensive exhibit of Native American artifacts, including many spearheads, axe heads, arrow tips, clay pots, and other items. There’s also a simulated dig site, a birch lodge, and a birchbark canoe. The signs give a great overview of Native American civilization over the millennia right here in Wisconsin. We stuck around to watch the Apostle clock chime the hour. What a fascinating piece of craftsmanship, I definitely recommend seeing it. Another fun thing to do is check out Grannie’s attic, a fun hodge-podge of old treasures that’s sure to bring back memories. See more..

  20. 4.5 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (26 reviews)
    - EAA AirVenture 2017
    Educational sites
    University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh image
We stayed here at the University of Wisconsin Gruenhagen Hall for a full week during the aviation festivities. We had an air conditioned room and we were very comfortable here. We slept in twin beds and had a refrigerator and microwave in our room. The dining hall was open but we found better choices dining at Big Apple Bagels for breakfast and Mahoney's for dinner. The Oshkosh community really caters to visitors and they add a bus route to and from the dorms all week long with accelerated and frequent service for $20 a week. This is WAY better than trying to rent a car and dealing with parking. The dorm bathrooms are spotlessly clean and segregated but the rooms and hallways are co-ed, so bring your pajamas or robe for the walk down the hallway! We would definitely stay here again! See more..

Also, feels great to get in the water. See more..
