   We started at Gambier and headed west towards Mount Vernon. Wow, such a beautiful ride. The path is well maintained and the scenery is amazing. Enjoyed how there are benches along the way to safely stop and take in the beauty of the area. After our return to the Gambier stop, we had a picnic lunch in front of the restored train. There are tables available under the shelter. Our daughter loved to be able to climb aboard and explored. Already planning a return trip this weekend to head east on the trail from Gambier.    The Schnormeier Gallery is quaint and always has great artwork. I’ve been to several different art receptions here and they are always fun and lively. After stopping here, be sure to head about 5 miles down the road to the Gund Gallery at Kenyon College.    My husband and I were in town looking at the beautiful leaves and the fountain with the animals~very cute. The owner (or person who works at the bookstore) was very friendly and immediately said hi to us when we walked in. There were several people in there and it was nicely laid out and decorated.    My husband and I had a wonderful time walking around this well maintained, artistically designed park. While we didn’t explore the entire 250 acres, we were thrilled with the river of glass, sculptures, view from the smokestack, ponds, and island. There are parking lots throughout, and we found the artistic signage explaining the origins of the park very interesting. If you’re a bicyclist, the Ariel-Foundation Park is on the Heart of Ohio bike path. Several of the artfully restored buildings are event spaces. Looks like a great place for a wedding. See more..

    Okay, it's not a fancy theater with an extensive menu, massive screens or chairs that fully recline (do they really offer these?), but it is a local movie theater that shows first-run new releases. The hours could be extended both earlier and later but that's my only complaint. They even offer a rewards club so on Tuesdays you get free popcorn. Why drive 30 miles or more when you can see the movie you want right here. Plus there are a few restaurants nearby. In fact, the recently reopened and relocated Mazza's is almost next door!     It was my birthday and my wife surprised me with a two night stay at the Grand Hotel and tickets for the blue grass band at the Opera House. The renovated House was just beautiful, but air conditioning was not working. We and the band were extremely warm. The Opera House is a must see if you're in Mount Vernon. See more..

    The first time we stopped in, we were on a date. We browsed and looked at the different kinds of candies, frozen treates, and pops. We stopped in again with the kids so that they could pick something for a treat. They have small shopping carts for kids, so my youngest pushed the cart. There are lots of candies to choose from and the owner said that they get new things in all of the time. You can follow their facebook page for notification of their new arrivals. There are lots of candies from an 80's childhood through to my own kids (maybe a few earlier kinds too).
