    Delaune Sailing Charters image
We had an amazing time with captain Rick and his mate. We were 4 girls celebrating a 30th birthday and they received us super well, calm and very educated. They would answer any questions we had about sailing. I am doing my captain license at the moment and they were just the perfect teachers. We also had a little drink at the dock at the end and just kept talking like old friends. During the sailing, rhe lake was exceptionnaly super choppy and we started being to much sea sick, so we turned back earlier than planned but they took the leftover time to do a quick tour of the bayou, which was fabulous. We saw wildlife even in winter. Fantastic crew! Thanks captain! See more..

Jean Baptiste Lang Creole House Museum image
We enjoyed our short visit to the lovingly restored classic Creole cabin. Moved from the Mandeville lakefront after Katrina, this house was reconstructed piece by piece. Along with the museum at the Mandeville trailhead, this house is a good place to learn about the history of the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain. The garden is lovely as well. See more..

    Northlake Nature Center image
This place is so peaceful, beautiful, and intriguing. It is free to walk around and enjoy nature. It was a welcomed break from the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter. The paper map was not great. We took a picture of the map on the sign and that was helpful. Using a combination of the picture, paper map, and GPS, we were able to know where we were. There is signage on the trails as well. We saw some cool spiders, two snakes, and some beautiful butterflies. It was pretty dry in some areas and we did not see any alligators or turtles. See more..

  17. 4.5 30 by Ninety Theatre (8 reviews)
    - Well done "Arsenic & Old Lace " show 11/13/21
    Wednesday: Spent 2-3 hours Theaters
    30 by Ninety Theatre image
This is a very nice, small and we think "intimate" theatre that consistently puts on well-done shows. Last night's two-act rendition of "Arsenic & Old Lace" was no exception, which we enjoyed very much. This time I remembered to bring a soft jacket to sit on, I find the seats get a little uncomfortable for their multi-hour productions. It is only a 1/2 block south of Florid with parking available across Lafayette Street. They do have some refreshments available. Sometimes the line for their restrooms can be long, so factor that in before you come. See more..
  18. 4.0 Fontainebleau State Park (345 reviews)
    - 72 degrees 12/30 late afternoon walk in the Park
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM State Parks
    Fontainebleau State Park image
I used 1/2 vacation day on 12/30, to take a walk through Fontainebleau State Park with my daughter and our dog. Who'd have thought it would be 72 degrees F on the next to last day of the year, a beautiful day to spend a couple of hours with my daughter still home from school. The entrance fee was $3/person, nothing for the dog!!! Most of our walk was through the woods on the Sugar Mill trail, but it was so nice we also walked out on the alligator boardwalk, two pictures attached. then we looped around to the beach and the pier, two more pictures attached. On the way back to the car, there is plenty of parking in various areas of the park, we spotted two interesting historical markers. One concerned native peoples and one enslaved people from plantation days (the early to mid-1800s). It was sad to head home for dinner after such a nice late afternoon walk. See more..
