The Hale-Wilkinson-Carter Home is a a beautiful architectural structure that sits in the heart of Historic Downtown Hillsville, Virginia. Construction began in 1845, and it was originally a 3-story, 13-room home. Subsequent additions have made it a 5-story, 34-room home. It's a fascinating site, rich in history, and the volunteers who work there are wonderful. "Mayetta's Market" is on the ground floor, and showcases beautiful work by talented, local artisans. The HWCH can also be rented out for events. There is ample parking behind the home. See more..

    Bradys Farm Market image
I visit Brady's 2-3 times a month. Easy to get to from either I-77 or Highway 58. The staff is always friendly. My wife and I always can and freeze fresh vegetables for the winter months so we get what we need from Brady's. If they do not grow what we need on their farm, they can usually find it from another local farmer. They have been farming for over 40 years and tell me that they have been at the farmers market for over 20 years. Highly recommend this stop if you are in Carroll County, Virginia. See more..

  7. 1.0 Blue Ridge Plateau Regional Visitors Center (1 review)
    - Not the Same!
    Thursday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Art Galleries
For many years we would stop at the Blue Ridge Plateau Regional Visitors Center. It was housed in a very nice building near its present location. It was clean and bright inside and showcased the work of Virginia craftspeople. We would stop there just to look around and shop, whether or not we needed to use the restrooms. It was fun! Unfortunately, it has drastically changed. When we pulled into the area it was no longer in the old building. After looking at the website we found it has been moved into the farmers market. The website claims it still has the crafts, and it seems just to have moved into the other building. Not so! What a disappointment! When walking into the building the funky smells of the produce greet you. It is not a very welcoming place. A very nice man was behind what I suppose was an information desk of sorts. I asked where the visitors center was and he gestured at the desk. That’s the extent of it now. There is a bathroom. It has cinderblock walls and is quite ugly. I will say it had the basics, soap, water, etc. It was clean enough. Still, to call this the Visitors Center is a joke. We will never bother to stop there again. Too bad. See more..
