Now I know where the Southern term “Coker or croker sack” comes from!! This self guided tour is open from 9am-6pm daily. This sits on 145 acres but you don’t tour that. You do see the cotton growing in the fields though. Me. Coker began the first cotton breeding program in the USA. They also worked with tobacco, corn, pulp wood , watermelons & more. The Coker family began the Sonoco Corporation, too. This tour site looks like an old dairy barn & has lots of displays & information inside. It is a National Historic Landmark, sometimes known as The Coker Pedigree Seed Company. If your curious about the beginning of experimental seeds, this is your place! See more..
