What a blast!! I’d been whitewater rafting before but my husband and two kids hadn’t. My 13 year old daughter was very nervous, I’m sure the other rafters heard her screams but she wants to try it again she had such a good time!! My 16 year old son wants to work for the company. He is hooked!! The bus ride made me nervous because it was filled but we wore masks and eyeglasses, used hand sanitizer, and then everyone got on their own rafts so that was fine. I did convince my son and daughter to jump into the river with me, but my hubby stayed in the raft. Hitting the rapids was awesome! We felt very safe with the guides. If your zip lining too definitely book online...SMO partners with CLIMBWORKS and you can get an additional discount. See more..

What a BLAST! We had such an awesome trip down the rapids of the upper Pigeon River with Heather as our guide. Heather asked what type of trip we wanted to have and she delivered, one rapid after another and we enjoyed every minute. I highly recommend Rafting in the Smokies with Heather as your guide, you’ll have an amazing, thrilling experience of a lifetime. See more..
  3. 5.0 River Rat Whitewater Rafting (2.906 reviews)
    - If you're thinking of white water rafting PICK RIVER RATS!!!!

    River Rat Whitewater Rafting image
I can't say enough about this experience. The crew was so fun and exciting. They all had different fun outfits on and really seemed to love what they do. There was never a dull moment, even on the bus ride up the river they were telling stories and joking and laughing. We chose the extreme raft and were lucky enough to get the coolest, funniest and most knowledgeable guide on the river, Ewok! He took us down runs that none of the other rafts were going down and did a bunch of different moves and tricks with us. He was so personable and friendly. I was really nervous about rafting for the first time and he made me feel super comfortable. Wouldn't have changed anything about it. See more..
  4. 5.0 Raft Outdoor Adventures (1.983 reviews)
    - Best Rafting Company and Guide!
Thursday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM River Rafting & Tubing
    Raft Outdoor Adventures image
Outstanding experience! Our family of 4 went on the double run trips on June 2 and had the good fortune of having Nic as our guide for both runs! Nic is very experienced as he’s been a guide for 6 years and rafts for fun when not at work! Safety was the first priority and fun was next on the list. He had control of the raft throughout the trips and was able to steer us right into best parts of the rapids. He turned us at different points for equal splashing opportunities!! Each employee we came into contact with was nice. They keep all the rafts on each trip in a safe proximity in case a boat is in need. The bathroom and changing facilities were the nicest for any similar type outdoor experience business we’ve ever seen and we’ve been to 49 US states so that’s a huge compliment. They have a photographer situated at a rapid and we bought the 15 digital pictures and they were great. I highly recommend this specific rafting company!! See more..

What an excellent experience. Our family visited for spring break and booked our whitewater rafting excursion. We did not know what to expect but when we arrived everyone was super friendly and extremely helpful. We met our guide (Dan aka Danaconda) who was engaging, knowledgeable and funny. He was especially engaging with our 14 and 9 year old children. Such a great time! Thank you, Dan and the rest of the Team at Rip Roaring Adventures! See more..

    Big Creek Expeditions image
This was our second trip with Big Creek Creek Expeditions. We took our grandkids two years ago and they had such a great time, that we rode again this past August. The staff and guides are so helpful and friendly. Last time we had Shane as a guide, and he was terrific at talking to our grandson who was a bit terrified as it was his first experience. Eat the first rapid, he was hooked. So this past August when we went, we requested Shane, but he was not available, so we had Jedi Mike as our guide. He was funny and reassuring. It was a terrific ride, and we are all looking forward to more experiences. Thank you Big Creek staff and guides for making this a memorable experience. See more..

This is the 7th time I’ve been here and this time my sister got to experience ziplining and white water rafting for her first time. JC and Isabella were great ziplining guides and Bailey was the best guide for water rafting. I would highly recommend this company as they always have the best staff & guides for a very enjoyable experience. See more..

First time rafting and it was a blast! Joseph was an excellent guide who made the white water rafting experience on Upper Pigeon a whole lot more fun with tricks to get splashed! In terms of safety, his guidance helped us avoid all kinds of rocks and nobody went unintentionally overboard, lol. Their last run at 4:45PM-6:45PM was a perfect time of the day for us and the price per person is very affordable. Highly recommend to go with a group of 6 you know for an adventurous memory. Customer service was also super friendly--totally recommend their business for your experience. See more..
  9. 5.0 Rapid Expeditions (394 reviews)
    - Amazing experience!
Thursday: 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM River Rafting & Tubing
    Rapid Expeditions image
My 10 year old son and I went on the Lower Pigeon River family float with Lisa as our guide. It was the first time for both of us. We really wanted to experience rafting in the Smoky Mountains--it seems like the thing to do while you are in the area. Lisa was fantastic! She foreshadowed each section of the river so we knew what was coming up, which sections would be a little rougher, if we might have a little bump due to a rock, when to paddle, where it was going to be a calm section to jump out and swim if you wanted to, etc. I loved that they took our picture on the river so we could purchase it at the end. Lisa was friendly and easy to talk to throughout our visit. She offered lots of encouragement and praise to both my son and I. I would highly recommend Rapid Expeditions! See more..
  10. 5.0 Pigeon River Canopy Tours (288 reviews)
    - Amazing, exciting & beautiful!

    Pigeon River Canopy Tours image
12 or 13 ziplines, most in the treetops across the river in the Cherokee National Forest. A lot of steps to get up to some platforms but relatively easy for a fat old guy like me... zipping back and forth across the Pigeon River was a highlight. Final zip was 1/3 of a mile, across the river reaching speeds og 55-60 mph... excellent staff- total focus on safety... See more..

If I could leave 10 stars I would! First time white water rafting and Ricky Bobby our guide made us feel so comfortable with his knowledge/skills. He's been on the river for over 20 years! He was cracking jokes the whole time to try and break the ice with any nerves. If you're even considering going to another company, don't!!! This is the white water rafting you want to do! They were amazing!! Ricky also gave us free moonshine tasting cards after the trip. All around great experience! We will be back! See more..

Nantahala Outdoor Center - Pigeon River Outpost image
We were on a couples trip and decided to go white water rafting for the first time. This was a great experience and thrilling activity. Mack was our guide and we all thought he was the best, with a lot of personality, jokes, great stories, and historical and river information that kept the trip interesting. The sign up process is easy, and you can fill out all forms prior to arriving, saving time. They give you all the equipment needed, and offer comprehensive safety training. We all felt confident after this training. The lower Pigeon river offers a great mix of floating, large and smaller rapids, and a beautiful scene for the trip. We were able to jump out at one point for a quick swim which was invigorating. We cannot wait to go again, and we would absolutely use NOC again. Great experience and a highlight of a wonderful couples trip. See more..

They absolutely loved It as Much as we did. I would definitely go back again. A must do ask to have Whitney as your guide. See more..
  14. 4.5 Bootleggers Distillery (60 reviews)
    - Most authentic LEGAL moonshine I've had so far
    Spent < 1 hour Distilleries
    Bootleggers Distillery image
I have been to at least 20 distilleries in Tennessee and this is the most authentic so far. They actually distill the liquor and don't just import it and add flavor and you can tell. You can try 3 moonshine/whiskey flavors for free or 10 for $5. It is well worth trying the 10. My favorite was the apple pie. See more..
  15. 4.5 Pigeon River Winery (3 reviews)
    - Random Little Winery Off the Highway

    Pigeon River Winery image
We found this little Hidden Gem after driving up and through the Smokies, right off the Highway and decided get out of the car and stretch our legs. I went in first to see if they were Pet Friendly as we were traveling with my dog. The nice gentleman inside said yes we could sit out back so we did, actually on the back porch on a few rocking chairs, which was relaxing as we enjoyed our Wine Slushees, Yum! Cool little place to stop for a bit! See more..
  16. 4.0 Tennessee Welcome Center (1 review)
    - Easy stop off of I-40
    Visitor Centers
    Tennessee Welcome Center image
This is one of the Tennessee visitors centers. This site is about 3 miles in when traveling on I-40 out of North Carolina and into Tennessee. Like many of roadside stops it is designed to be able to pull directly off the road and into the parking lot. There is one main building painted grey up a hill from the parking lot. It looks like an old log cabin complete with rocking chairs on the front patio of the structure. Inside is a dark tile floor and wood on the desk facing the door. There appears to be plenty of parking. The main building is up a flight of stairs and a ramp. There is a person to greet you in the center room of this main building. As you enter the building, to the left are the restrooms and to the right, there is a room for informational brochures. The restrooms are a little dated but nice. The staff was very friendly and had plenty of information about the local area. It was a very easy and pleasant stop and I highly recommend it for visitors needing a rest stop or some information on the sites to see in the state. See more..
