- 5.0 Buffalo Mountain Natural Area Preserve (13 reviews)
-Great Wildflower Hike
Spent 1-2 hours Mountains • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
We took our dog here for a great hike in spring. There is about 2 miles of trail making a loop that leads up to the summit. Oak Trail leads along the flank of the mountain and there were a tremendous amount of trillium and other wildflowers. Barrens Loop Trail leads to the summit with fantastic views from the highest point in Floyd County. The top part of the trail is roped off to keep hikers on the trail and prevent trampling sensitive wildlife. Please stay within the roped off trail. The 1-mile gravel road to the parking area is very narrow with a few pull-offs for oncoming traffic. Drive slowly and cautiously. Overall, a great spot for a hike with wildflowers and scenic views. We hiked the Black Ridge Trail, a 3-mile, 90-minute, moderate loop, in the Rocky Knob Recreational Area on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We went on an overcast morning, which limited some of the faraway views. However, the hike itself was eerie and beautiful in the clouds. Lots of places to take beautiful photos of wildflowers, trees, ruins, cattle grazing, streams, and, on a clear day, the distant mountains. See more..

- 4.5 Angels in the Attic (14 reviews)
-Great bargains of donated clothing and household items
Speciality & Gift Shops
Another trip to this location in downtown Floyd Virginia is worth it. It is located adjacent to the well known Floyd Country Store (bluegrass music). Locals shop here a lot, but there are many out of towners also seeking bargains. The staff is almost all volunteers, and it is a non-profit charity, so the prices are unusually low. The stock ranges from blue jeans to picture frames to kitchen utensils, tools, knives, lighting fixtures, etc. I always stroll next door to the Angels Boutique, which has items that are over $5, and there can be treasures or antiques found, or sometimes a guitar, leather jacket, or artworks. Some items are donated from estates. See more..

I am an 80-year-old Geek. Many of the computers and accessories in this Historical exhibit bring back fond memories from my earlier years. I try to revisit each time I'm in Floyd to see what new items from the past have been included. Obviously from reading what I have written and looking at my rating, this is a place of interest to me. There is also quite a selection of ham radio, amateur radio, items on display. This also interests me since I am A Ham radio operator and have been since the early 50s. W5TID, Jim See more..
