I had done some quick visits to the museum at some points, but really began to find it’s value in 2018 when I needed information when compiling an abstract on title to land in El Reno that was once crossed by railroads I went to the museum. The staff was very helpful and were able to pull out old railroad maps that showed the location of the abandoned lines. I was able to include in the abstract to help the examiner and others trying to read the difficult descriptions contained in railroad deeds. (they use “engineer points” not survey points like general land descriptions.) I’m now fully retired and hope to go back and find info or photos on relatives that lived in El Reno, including my great grandfather that was sexton of the cemetery for 16 years beginning in 1909. My grandmother was born there in 1904, before statehood. I may find lots of interesting things. See more..

Unique World War 2 monument honoring 44 former El Reno students who served in WW2 and gave their lives. The front of the monument lists their names, ranks, service branches and units, dates of death, and how they died for each of those men. The back side of the stone bears their images alongside images of airplanes (B-17, P-38, etc), ships (inc. USS Oklahoma), and other equipment they served in. See more..

Oklahoma has some of the strangest and often deadliest weather anywhere...I recently stopped by the memorial when I was in El Reno to the three storm researchers that passed away chasing the May 31, 2013 tornado. At one time the storm was 2.6 miles wide. These brave men died trying to gather valuable knowledge to help save the lives of others ♥️ I thought the memorial was a very nice tribute to keep their memory alive. People still visit and leave trinkets & coins in Thor honor. Exit 127 off I-40 then travel southbound on Radio Road about a mile and turn left, granite monument sits on the north side of Reuter Road near a field. See more..

Fort Reno is a great place to visit. It has a lot of historic buildings. There are a lot of interesting facts and things to see from artifacts, photographs, images of the 1888 Cheyenne and Arapaho Agency, German POW's to the Buffalo Soldiers. If you like ghost stories and the such, then the firing of the Christmas Guns is a must see. Fort Reno Christmas Guns is a tradition brought here by German immigrants. The discharging of firearms such as cannons and guns was believed to dispel evil spirits in preparation for the upcoming holiday. Although they can be loud. If you like history and are in the Oklahoma City area this is a trip worth doing. See more..
