  1. 5.0 Fred W. Symmes Chapel (164 reviews)
    - Worth the drive
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites

Sunrise at Pretty Place shouldn't be missed. It's about an hour's drive from Greenville. Plenty of parking at Pretty Place. Most people are taking photos of the glorious sunrise but everyone was respectful of others. Check campgreenville.org before you go to make sure there's not an activity booked. When we were there a couple was having engagement photos taken. Caesar's Head and Jones Gap state parks aren't far away so plan to take some time to visit those also. See more..
  2. 4.5 Caesars Head State Park (376 reviews)
    - Amazing Mountain views
Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM State Parks

We picnicked here at Caesar's Head on Memorial Day and it was a great spot to eat lunch, and enjoy the cooler temps in the mountains. Just and FYI, you'll have to pack in and pack out all of your trash if you decide to picnic here, as there are no trash receptacles. The overlook is awesome, and definitely a place to take in the beauty surrounding you. The walk around the overlook and through the Devil's kitchen is quite short, however the Devil's Kitchen is very tight, so if you're afraid of small spaces it's probably not for you. The areas around the top of the mountain are beautiful and well maintained. Definitely a recommended place to come, but there isn't much to do at the top, unless you plan to hike the trails, which do come at an extra cost, and from what I know can be pretty strenuous. 3. 4.5 Wildcat Wayside Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area (57 reviews)
    - Beautiful Falls - Nice Hike!
    Nature & Wildlife Areas

This little roadside attraction sponsored by the state parks, was one of the first roadside parks in S.C. places here to show some of the beauty that is the Palmetto State. It still succeeds! Park in the little parking area at the bottom of the park. Head up the trail about 100ft past a small fall and in front of another to cross a creek to get on the main trail. Head on up the trail past the original picnic building with its concrete pad and fireplace still intact. The main trail does a loop and either way will get you by the upper falls, which is a real treat if there has been some rain recently. Watch the kiddies or the adults who act like kiddies - the falls are beautiful, but they are slick and are not forgiving to fools. Adhere to the signs and this will be something you remember for a long time - simply stunning! See more..
  4. 4.5 Bald Rock Heritage Preserve (37 reviews)
    - People stink
    Spent < 1 hour Mountains

The overlook over the Bald Rock is really cool, but the area has been destroyed by graffiti and vandalism. It's sad that people don't have the decency to maintain the beauty of a natural place like this. There is a trash can here which was helpful for me to throw away a few things that were stuck in my car, but in general it was a short stop. See more..
  5. 4.5 Ashmore Heritage Preserve (6 reviews)
    - Nature trails in Upcountry South Carolina
Spent 2-3 hours Scenic Walking Areas

This is a property administered by the state of South Carolina, but donated by a family in honor of their father, who loved this property of 1,200 acres of handsome land. There is no charge to hike here, and the area fortunately is closed to mountain bikes. One can find easy (predominately flat) to strenuous hikes here. There is a large pond and in winter and spring from there is a view of a cascade up on Green Mountain. Spring allows the visitor to find many wildflowers. There are plenty of opportunites for nature photography. This is a perfect place to “forest bathe” i.e. wash your brain and senses in the beauty of Nature. At the trailhead there is a posted map. Take a photo with your phone before you head out. No public bathrooms. See more..
  6. 4.5 Moonshine Falls (2 reviews)

  7. 4.0 Victoria Valley Vineyard (22 reviews)
    - Lunch surprise
Tuesday: Spent 1-2 hours Wineries & Vineyards

What a great visit. The process of sampling wines is brilliant. It really allows to taste and revisit your choices as they all arrive at the same time. They are separated so no confusion. The staff were great and the atmosphere was relaxing and no rush was felt to leave. The food options were very good and fresh. And desert was rather tasty ( we had cheese cake). This the one time when all the reds we tried were good and the Merlot was off favorite. The vies is also nice and calming. See more..
